Okay, so finally I am ready to send my z70va with its funky screen suddenly growing weird flickering multicolored lines all over the display and messing up the picture and freezing at unpredictable intervals to the repair block. Judging from the posts here the problem seems to be a bad video card. (I did go through the whole song and dance of removing system memory cleaning cpu fan etc).

Anyway the thing is relatively 'used' and with no warranty so how much would it cost to get the thing fixed and turned around from a place like Cali? Also I don't want to get it back just to have the same thing happen a year later so is there anyway to avoid this or is this just bad design?

are you sure it isn't an lcd problem? do you have the same flickering/multicoloring when you plug your system into an external monitor?

Well I did look at the lcd connector from both sides and couldn't see anything wrong although the side that plugs into the lcd was so tiny I couldn't tell for sure. Anyway I did plug it into an external monitor and while the external monitor shows no sign of the garbling that is on the primary lcd it starts to flash out when the lcd gets messed up and finally shuts down completely when the lcd gets frozen as I stated before. I'd look at the video card myself but thanks to the retarded design it is practically the only part which I can't get to without undue risk.

Asusforums has z70v "artifacts on screen" on their FAQ list as caused by faulty video cards. I've read other stories about z70vas with displays that just wink out on their owners like this without much warning. Usually they just give up and send them back for a card and maybe even wholesale motherboard replacement. Pretty pissed since the GPU is probably one of the most expensive parts and it's just something that seems to happen if you use the computer enough.

I'm going to attempt to get my money back for a fan replacement then prepare to mail it out. But if you have a cure which will save me all this trouble I'll be glad for it. Also if anyone knows that something like this has a good chance of happening again due to defective design I'd like to know too.

well, i don't know how comfortable you are with removing the motherboard and what not, but btotech sells spare parts on barebones models

    http://btotech.com/store/products/accessories/parts.htm

you might be able to find something from the asus e-store as well.

as for a repair, i would suggest contacting your reseller and see if he can give you a quote.
