seeing that they will have the same x700 w/ 128mb
does the 17inch take more from the x700 being it is the bigger screen, hence a better performance on the 15inch screen?

i am definetly buying one of these bastids but would like to get the best bang for the buck since their out of my normal range price for notebooks.

    Justin, care to comment?

    thanks

Man... I don't even know....... I guess the W1 will be running WSXGA+ and the W2 will surely run WUXGA..... I've never actually considered degredation in graphics between the two, but I'd assume there may be some. Just thinking about how all of the 3d mark numbers are based on XGA..... and knowing that the numbers are slightly lower pumping up to SXGA..... I would imagine that you may be on to something.

However, I have not gotten to test these out yet as the W1 refresh hasn't even come over as a demo yet...... and there is only one W2 in North America and it's sitting at Asus.

Honestly I was quite surprised when they told me that they decided they wanted to try to go with 128mb card. I said, so 1218mb x600... sweet. Then they said, no... x700. To which I was like, huh? how? x700?.. They said... yeah.. awesome, right?

So, I almost want to try to push them and see if it'd be possible to fit the W2 with a 256mb x800 or something... but I guess the thickness of the machine wouldn't give it enough room.

    Thanks,
    Justin

I am having the same debate with myself, but recently I have been leaning to the W1 just because it is 15". Those 17" notebooks are pretty big, and I would like a little portability.

It also nice to see a thread on the front page NOT devoted to the W3!
when the W2 comes out I hope the forum gets flooded with threads so then all the W3 people will know how i feel

haha...... well the w3 was a looooong awaited machine for a lot of people. The new W1 is going to float in under the radar with the W2 being the next big thing out there.

Being a W3 fan myself....... I think the W1 being a little over 7 pounds is heavy for someone always on the move. Even though it's a heavy duty portable system...... The W2, is going to be even heavier, but man... it's only going to be less than a 1/4 pound more and you get a lot bigger screen. It's not going to be for everyone, but I think the new W1 and W2 are really going to pack a big punch and should be very popular indeed.

    Thanks,
    Justin

Even though the W1 and W2 will be close in weight, the W2 will still have larger dimensions... which thus makes it less portable.
    I'd take a W1 over a W2 any day [|)]
... but they're both too heavy for my liking. I want a Z63A!

Just a note..... reading the official specs on the W1 and W2, both are listed at 3.2kg.. that's about 7.05 pounds.

    W2 - 14.33" x 10.39" x 1.22"-1.26"

    W1 - 14.33" x 10.39" x 1.26"

I know for a fact the W2 is wider and physically it's impossible to have the same length and width on a 17" widescreen as a 15.4" widescreen.....

I think there's been a big mistake on Asus' part..

    Thanks,
    Justin
