hey guys im getting my w2j in the mail soon and i wanted to upgrade to 2gb ra,. can anyone tell me what kind to buy like pin wise and evrything? im a notebook noob i have never had one before, and i believe just putting in ram doesn't void warranty right?

I got the same thing and I might upgrade later on. you want to get pc5300 or 5400 ddr 667 notebook ram. I do not believe adding in ram will void your warranty, someone correct me if I'm wrong.

FYI, I just bought some 667 ram for my V6J from memoryx.com, for just $110 per Gig, shipped. Seemed kind of too cheap to be true, but so far so good, everything's running fine. What I've read on these forums is that adding RAM does not void the warranty. Not sure if that is actually spelled out in the legal fine print anywhere though, or if its just more of a policy.

Modifying your system in anyway MAY void the warranty. Adding ram is usually a safe thing to do and if you damage anything when installing it, it's usually common place that you'd short out the ram stick if anything..... so you'd want to be careful when doing that, but if you do short it out.. it's your ram that you bought.... not a big deal warranty wise. There have been cases when installing ram has screwed up a system..... whether you short the motherboard out (very uncommon) or you break pins inside the open dimm...... or something else... it COULD happen, so you need to be careful.
If you need to send your system in for warranty repair, you need to send it in only with the original parts installed, which means you need to take out the other stick of ram. Asus has never denied to work on a system becasue it has more ram installed, but if the problem ends up coming from the ram stick you installed - they can charge you for the work they did on your computer and return shipping....... This is not something they want to get into, so they request that before you send anything back to them, it's in THEIR original configuration so that if there is a problem, it's going to be one of theirs and not something of yours which will waste your time and money to ship it in... and then their time which they'll have to charge you for...... just keep that in mind.
On the US W2jb, there is an open dimm under the system......... two screws and about a minute of your time and you'll be able to upgrade your ram..... so, yeah... a noob can do it.... in fact, someone who's never seen a computer or a ram stick before should be able to get it down within 5 minutes.... -

200 pin..... my suggestion is corsair VS1GSDS667D2 - that's what we use in our custom systems.

Can't go wrong with Corsair. OCZ and Kingston is also worth a look.

at $89 for one gig, you can't beat it. I'm gonna stick with what works, corsair all the way.
