    Hi all,

I just got my w2v yesterday and I was just wondering if it is supposed to come with the MCE cd or some kind of package info. I've seen some pics and it shows what looks to be a windows package. I'm in Canada.

    Thanks

It's got the factory restore set consisting of 3 CDs - that's where the MCE is. But there is not a stand alone CD.

What exactly is a factory restore set? (i'm not up on the lingo)
I guess what i'm worried about is that if I for some reason have to reformat my harddrive or what have you I want to be able to restore my computer with xp media centre.
    Thanks

Yes, you can certainly restore the media center OS with those CDs. In fact I just did a fresh reinstall myself 2 days ago with them. I had to do that because I wanted to break down my HD into several partitions. Basically the CDs run a preprogrammed script that installs the OS, the drivers, and any 3rd party software that was meant to be included (such as acrobat, norton antivirus, etc). And the whole script is custom tailored to a particular notebook - so once it's done you're all set - your graphics card is installed, your audio card is installed, etc.. Being a purist I'd prefer a separate OS CD and then do everything separately myself, but heck - their CDs work just fine.

In the beginning it prompts you to specify whether you want to re-partition the drive as one whole, or keep partitions intact and install in the first partition. The latter option is what I did and it worked. I don't know if it would have wiped out any files that may have already been in the partition - as I started with a clean one.

Lexee thanks so much for your help.

These cd's that you are talking about is this a file that I have to run, which then burns cds. Or are these cd that should have come with the computer?

They should have come with the PC. See attached image how the pack of 3 CDs looked like, wrapped in plastic.
