    dear all,

just got a w2v model from my work (brand new) and it came with the win xp professional instead of the win media center. I thought it would work well but it seems that it does not.
Every time that I connect my laptop to the power the screen becomes blurred. Did anyone experienced that? It is really annoying... Is it because of the xp pro instead of the media center?
What are the features of the laptop available only on the MC? Could someone point me a website where I can read about it? It came without any documentation (remained with the helpdesk of my company)...

    best regards,

    P.

    P,

Well if you got it from "work", I'd bring it back to them and tell them to deal with the problem. Your screen certainly shouldn't be blurry and Asus should be able to help with that. IF you got it with XP Professional on it, either you didn't get it in North America, or whoever you got it from formatted the hard drive and put on XP Pro for some reason......... either way, I'd bring it back to whoever you got it from and report the problem because that's just what it is, a problem. Something like that is certainly covered by warranty.

First of all, it doesn't matter if you run Windows XP or Windows MCE, so don't worry about that (Windows MCE is in fact almost similair to Windows XP Pro).

As for the bluriness, it might sound a bit silly, but have you checked the resolution? It sounds like the resolution changes when you use AC, which is not at all that unlikely.

That's true... if you lower the res on any screen you could run into something that seems blury......... but I've also seen people use a background that is a really low res and stretch it...... if you do that it'll look fuzzy but everything you do in windows should still look normal....... so those are really two explainations for it.

I have tried all possible resolutions. I should say I am not a layman, since I work with computers too. Problem is that in my company the laptops follow a strict helpdesk rule, so I barely have any rights to it (gotta admin using a software to wipe-out the admin password).
The problem is indeed when I use AC. It seems like a TV with a bad signal... In any resolution. :(
BTW: I've got the laptop in Europe.

That's weird.... call Asus.. or have one of your guys call them.... this is not normal and they'll take care of it...

Make sure your refresh rate is at 60Hz - that's what the panel on the W2 runs at. Also, your native resolution is 1680x1050, so see if there are any changes when you set it to that.

Have you tried updating your video card's drivers?

I know exactly what you are talking about, gomesp.
I got my monitor on the w2 replaced for the exact same reason.
A quick fix is to use your fn key + F5 to turn the brightness down 2 notches. You propably have it on full now.
