Hi all,
My w2v came without any tv tuning software (perhaps for the fact that my helpdesk people put XP Pro instead of MCE in it). Anyways, I checked all cd's and no one seem to have the asus mobile theater sw.
I tried several tv tuner sw and the best I could test was this K!TV which does not capture the sound (it crashes when I try to setup the sound). Did anyone run into these problems?
Any suggestions on how to capture the TV video and audio?
Regards,
P.

You could try the free demo version of cyberlinks powercinema. This ships with ASUS's dual pci TV tuner, which I have in my desktop, maybe it will work? The next best thing is to findout what chip is used in the tuner, eg philips etc. Then do a google for compatable software. There are a number of media center applications out there as well, for eg http://mediaportal.sourceforge.net/. This one is free aswell and supports a large number of tuners, although I personally found it a bit to difficult to setup....lots&lots of setings to play with.... definitely for the power users.

Yep, that's your problem........ MCE has the software in it.... that's why it comes with it.
Powercinema is decent, but that tv tuner card is made for MCE....... someone should be able to get it to work though. -
i have the same problem, too.
with nero home, i got the vision once, however, no sound.
with, on the other side, asus' mobile theatre, i got no vision nor sound -

if you have the "vb" model, that tuner doesn't work with asus mobile theather.. there is a very good reason they bundle different tuners with the different OS's...

I have the w2vb model and tried the Powercinema and a bunch of other software (except for asus mobile theather and MCE 2005).
I never got the sound to work. Anyone have an idea/solution? Should I try to install the MCE 2005? I am thinking about having dual boot (XP Pro and MCE 05). But I want to be sure that the MCE 2005 will work with the W2Vb model.

yeah, well the tv tuner in the VB model was only used because it's the only minipci card that works with MCE......... it does not work with Asus' mobile theather -- which is just a rebranded powercinema anyway........ and i'm not sure what else would work with it.
the "vb" model should have come with MCE.... that's what the "b" stood for...... the "vc" mode came with mobile theater and a whole different tv tuner.
What part of xp pro are using that MCE doesn't have? MCE is XP Pro minus only the domain controller........ remote desktop, all the power saving features... that's all part of MCE as well.... as long as you don't need a domain controller, I'd just use MCE. -
now i checked my w2v's box, and make sure that mine is a "vb" model.
and it came with "mbile theatre".
now what should i do..?
i'm really confused. -
Contact your re-seller, get them to ship you MCE. It sounds like that is the only program that will work. From all the reviews I have read on media software, MCE is the gold standard, and not much else comes close.
