Has anyone compared these two so far?
I've read ProPortable's and madmike23's opinions about z83v (not extremely positive, so to say), but I don't really find big differences in specs.
z83v has a worse display (1400x900 compared to 1680x1050), traditional DVD drive (not sload-load) and is bigger/heavier. But what else is worse? It has some additional features (video camera + mic, Audio DJ) which make it weigh slightly more. And why do some countries sell it as A7 (like as if it was ensemble) and others say it's just Built-on Asus?
Thanks for comments,
Chris

Actually I hear that the Z83V's display is pretty amazing (Eddie from Geared2Play.com review). Especially for a glossy. It's just got a lower resolution than the WSXGA+ on the W2. Some are more fond of the bigger text. I'm in graphics (print industry) and I need the desktop space, so for a 17" screen I would very much like the higher resolution on the W2. I think both systems are great. In my opinion, one is beautiful and the other one is just sleeker. They're both great. I would get the W2 myself, but it's out of my price range. As for portability, they're both big, but the W2 is much thinner and very stylish. If I got one, I probably wouldn't be traveling with it much. I've got my Z70VA for that.

As madmike23 says if you're not overly worried about the system being a bit heavier and bigger and you don't particularly want the higher res screen then the Z83V is probably the way to go. The W2 is as much a piece of industrial art as it is a computer in my opinion (but I'm biased) whereas the Z83V is more of a conventional laptop. For me I'm a bit obsessed with the style and feel of the things I buy (probably more than I should be) so the W2 was well worth the extra cash but if you're more practical save yourself some money.

I'm more and more decided. Is the design really so much different? I haven't seen that on the pictures, but maybe it is.
One more question. Actually, twoIs the microphone separate from the video camera or do they come as one? I mean, I'd mainly use it for skype, so I don't know if it can be used for that.
And is the warranty 2 yrs global like with w2v?

There's plenty of pictures of the Z83V on Geared2Play.com here (probably the only reseller with a bunch of pics of it) : http://www.ynot2k.com/products/laptops/z83v/z83v.htm
And the W2 looks almost like the Apple's Titanium laptops. Pics are here. http://www.ynot2k.com/products/laptops/prebuilt/w2v.htm
Proportable's got some good pics of the W2 also: http://www.proportable.com/detail.aspx?ID=136 -

I'd never pretend to love a system that I don't. The Z83vb is a great notebook but it's certainly no W2vb... however I don't think it's supposed to be as it's in an entirely different price bracket. It's heavier - yes....... It's got a lower resolution - yes...... it's plastic rather than carbon fiber........ it's still a good system though and probably the best most people would ever own. However, if you consider the W2 the best 17" notebook ever on the market... it's hard to step to down to anything else.
Final words........ great notebook and "normal" for a 17" if you compare res and weight across the board with other notebooks....... however you don't get a huge 17" screen with WXGA res if you're big into graphics......... the unit has a 128mb x700... so, I'd think you'd be into graphics if you bought the system... but it depends on why you're buying it and that's a personal choice that I can't make for anyone. -
I had a chance to play with both w2v and z83v today and I can say the w2v's screen is brighter but the z83c screen was alot more vivid...

^wow the w2 looks like it's even shorter than the 15.4 m6!

It is... mainly because the bottom chassis on the M6 is thicker..... then there are speakers under the screen which puts the screen a lot higher on the M6 than compared to the W2...... so yes.. overall the height of the screens in that picture is not an illusion... it's just how it is.

OK. Let's see... I've just ordered z83v. I hope I can trust Asus
And I've also bought an hp zd8000 for my girlfriend. She wanted a 17" notebook up to $1300 and this is the only one I found. At least from a known brand.
I'll post some of my feelings about the computer as soon as I receive it.
Thanks for all the posts,

The ZD8000 is a wonderful computer, but it weighs a ton. I just hope your girlfriend isn't planning to carry it around, unless she's a bodybuilder. I'm not too fond of the ZD8000 screen, but other than that, it's a pretty good desktop.
