I think you gotta buy a modular bay which is about 40$, take out the DVD drive, put the modular bay in there, buy a 6 cell battery and put the battery in the modular bay.

Not quite, the modular bay describes the bay that everything plugs into.

It means the DVD drive can be removed and replaced with either another battery or second HDD, the only thing you need the kit for is the housing for the HDD, the battery fills up the entire bay.

In this picture the DVD rom is in the W3J and from left to right you have the HDD kit (which is seeentially the blank travellers draw with the right circitry attached), the optical bay battery and the blank travelers draw.

I normally have the HDD in the bay and I also use the second battery when travelling, they both work really well.

90% of the time I run with the HDD in, so then I have a 160GB seagate main and 100gb 2nd drive.

if I am traveling short distances and i want extra battery, I will take the second battery only, no 2nd HDD or DVD.

If I am travelling for a long time, I slot the DVD or HDD in and pack the battery away untill needed (as it is the most robust) sometimes I will take out the 100gb drive and put it in a solid enclosure as there no protection on top of the HDD enclosure.

It really depends on what work I will be doing, where I will be going and for how long, but thats what I really like about having a multibay, it makes the computer so much more versatile, every lapotp should have one.

Where did you buy this computer with a 160gb drive? or did u buy it seperatly and then swap it for the 100gb?

Does the main battery switch over automatically to the 2.5 battery (no shut downs etcc?) when it is run down?

    NZwaverider is correct.

jacen83, the way the batteries work, is that the modular bay battery drains first, then the main battery drains. General when the circutry makes the change it does not shut down the laptop.

Unfortunately there are some isolated issues on the forums in which the battery switch doesn't work properly. Just makes sure your using the latest drivers and bios to ensure everything works smoothly.
