when I stick in a disk or a bootable flash drive, I cant get the laptop to boot from it, it just skips it no mater what order I specify in the bios. I also have tried hitting escape and manually selecting the boot option I want. I havent cared to much about this, but too many problems are cropping up because of this and I want to try and fix this now. any help would be appreciated

What are you trying to boot, exactly? Obviously you've gotta make sure it's something bootable and the device itself is able to be booted from - some USB devices are not able to be booted from...

The bootable media you use can also be corrupted, no need to blame the BIOS all the time :p

Btw, do you see a text like "Found: USB Mass storage device" during the boot process? My notebook notifies me that way everytime I plug a USB flash drive and tries to boot from it...

no, I have tried multiple things.... I am trying to align the clusters first so I can convert to ntfs from fat 32... I have tried booting windows cds, bootabe usbs (yes they were formatted correctly, I tried them on a friends comp) etc

If it doesn't boot from CD either then you do have a problem.

    Try:
    - resetting BIOS to defaults
    - rewriting BIOS with the same or older version
