Ive been reading the threads on the forums, and iam hearing that Asus is discontinuing the w3j? Will there be a new series coming out with the same build quality? I just simply love the single big metal hinge on the back. I am wondering if there will be a "santa rosa" version of this magnificent piece of art. Hopefully someone can give me some kind of info. As iam planning on buying a santa rosa laptop in the form of a w3j type laptop build.

Yeap, after I heard the news that it was getting discontinued, I was pissed, but I had to get one. I also thought that "single big metal hinge on the back" was part of the hinge but it's actually the battery. Like resellers on these forums will tell you, it is very unlikely it will be revived, with the A8's selling better and the v2 on it's way.

Yes the W3 chasis is being discontinued like the V6. Shame as it was one of the nicest design ASUS produced :(

The U1 has the hinge design, but much smaller, like the Sony SZ

nice! Owning a w3j is like owning a piece of computer design history! i love my w3j, fantastic build quality. Its a shame to see it go.

(hope fully they don’t forget to provide a BIOS update to get Vista to work)

Has there been any firm answer as to whether the W3J will be refreshed for Santa Rosa before being discontinued?

The V2 and A8 will fill in the roles for 14", as the Business and Gamer machines.

Here's the only picture I could find, many here have already seen it.

Also this notebook is geared to the business user, just like the V1JP. I would expect the looks of the laptop should be very close to the V1JP.

i guess time will only tell...lets see what May will bring...or i might even be tempted to settle for just a regular good ole w3j with the regular core 2 duo instead of a santa rosa chipset.

actually the A8jr is looking pretty promising with the really nice looking specs...still wishing to see that gun metal type casings on other notebooks for Asus.
