Can you confirm that the chasis design differs from the previous W3V, specifically the Bamboo designed hinge??? An official pic would really be helpful!!! :)

Well, this might do something for you. Besides the touchpad change, the only thing that is different is that the chassis is a bit darker. The funny thing is, the color of the chassis is basically what's in the pictures of the W3v's we've had all year... it's just that the lighting never really showed them off right... now the pictures are a little more accurate because the darker color matches the darker lighting from those pictures...

These are still from Taiwan...... like Ed basically said... only way to believe it is to see it and frankly I present what I have great confidence in, but I still can't fully back it till I see it and as we've all seen...... demos mean NOTHING. Last years W3v demo that I had was one thing and then that changed with the production models.

I'm an immigrant. But my family and I did it the right way, applying and waiting the 2 years to get approved. So it ticks me off that people want to cut the line ahead of other people that are playing by the rules. Everyone is getting all riled up about how hard-working, good people these illegals are -- but they forget that this whole thing ain't fair to the hard-working good people that are patiently waiting their turn.

all of you blaming illegal immigrants should be in their place of what things they face

They enter the country illegally because they dont have the money to pay for th paper work to enter legally

2nd.. you have to blame the globalization that developed countries like the United States is producing

they moved their factories to these develop countries saying that they bring jobs to these people but infact they make the gap between the poor and the rich bigger

these companies dont pay taxes in these countries, pay really low wages among other things

and the poor people dont have other choice but to enter illegally
and for those that say they are taking our jobs

    get informed please

just look at the news and see how the rich people in their pursue for profits are taking jobs overseas

but even this makes poor people in these countries poorer while the rich get richer

is just tiring to see people criminilized illegals and they forget what they did themselves in history

The United States came into being because of stealing of land.. people entering illegally to land it wasnt theirs

just look at the Native Americans
    all the land was theirs

and the Americans came in and killed them over time, stealing their land
look at their situation now.. they are one of poorest minority in this country
    and they dont deserve this

so please people, READ Your true History
get informed before making such senseless remarks

    I'm sure he was.

I also think the rules should be the same for everyone and if everyone wants to become a citizen (and put in the work), they should be allowed to.

I don't disagree with a lot of what you said, but keep in mind going back through history, this is the M.O. for ALL societies - Mayans, Romans...etc...etc. Human Nature I guess.

...how bout that W3j - what a looker.

Please don't assume general disregard for evidence based on one person' off-topic post in a thread for the Asus W3j. This is hardly the place to look for a solid debate on political issues.

As to the W3j, I'm so stoked. Not the most erudite word choice I know, but what can I say. I've been waiting for almost half a year now!

Ok first the land was taken before we had the goverment we have today. Way before. Now we are one of the best societys in the world. So while i can feel for immigrants LEGAL ones. We as a nation can not take all these people in If we continue to do so we will become a third world nation just like most of south america and it will be the fault of illegals. We can not afford to support them we only have so many resources. So instead of illegal immigrants complaining maybe they should look at their goverments and try to change it so they can have a nice society like ours. Instead of degrating ours to the point of no return. And before you people ***** back at me. Im a first generation american and all my family were LEGAL immigrants from italy so maybe all these people should just get in line and wait to get in. My family waited 10 years. When i see gangs in LA composed of 20 thousand illegals sorry we have an issue. And if you think our laws are unfair why dont you read up to what happens to illegals when they go to south america. they have no rights at all. Can get no goverment help. are not aloud to own land. Pot stop calling the kettle black.

And yes the W3J is Awsome.

    Get informed
    take a sociology class
I also Entered this Country LEGALLY.. my family waited years also..
I also had the mentality that Illegals should be deported and not allowed
but Once I started seeing the reality these people go through.. I understood their situation thing that most people dont see
dont generalize, most of these people have a family to support. given their situation they will do anything to make their lifes better.. thing that you will also have done if you were in their footsteps

also I wasnt saying the laws are unfair.. I was just saying the history of this country.. its just ironic that people are complaning about illegals when their families before them entered illegally also

I can go on and on explaining but I better not..
just getting back this thread in the right direction..

I am thinking of getting this W3j, much more portable
but I am hoping the sound is good for such small notebook

I have the a 17 nch Asus but man is heavy.. lol..
hence my interest is toward this one
since it comes with the mobility X1600

I search for a 15.4 inch version with the mobility X1600 but no luck

This proves to show that a vast number of forum goers are very anal and cant take a joke. Seriously lighten up and delete your post. It dont belong here. For your inframation: I am an immigrant my self. Actually i am a refugee but same thing. I came here in 1990 when i was 10 year old without a penny to my name (i did have a 7th grade edumacation though they put me in the 4th grade at age 10 for some reason.) Moal of the story is.........what the hell is wrong with you? lighten up!!!

No that is not ironic. Its actually very normal to abandon your history and assimilate your self to your surroundings. The ironic part is the average joe who does not like the imigrants. Its ironic because Joes salary would not be as high as it is now if this country did not open its borders and did not have so many minorities. Joe's cousin would be working in Mcdonalds making minnimum wage instead of the immigrant. Thats ironic. What you said is not ironic sorry. If it wasnt for minorities and imigrants the average majority (white) would make less money and would work harder. This country opens its borders (legal or illegal) becuase the young people that flock here support the retirees, welfare cases, govt aid and pretty much the rest of the country that does not contribute to our economy growth, No i was not a politics major but imigrant influx should definitely be controlled not stopped all together..

I would say the sound will be average at best...just not what this laptop is all about. I would say either A. get a good pair of speakers for your desk or B. get a good pair of headphones when you're on the couch...etc.

It's so small, and the nature of speakers are that they need to be big to produce lower frequencies (I'm over simplifying of course) that it's just not possible.

    thats true..

besides the Klipsch promedia 2.1 (not much portable)

I have the Klipsch 2.0 Ultra which are portable speakers
which will help with the sound

I was just wondering how good they sound because I am currently have an Asus 17 inch laptop (although there is no comparison to this laptop) and the sound is just great

I have hear sound from two other 17 inch laptops and the Asus one is the best
so I am thinking for a 14 inch laptop.. it will have better sound in its category as I have experienced in the 17 inch category
    I think that made sense

^ That may be true - better sound in it's category. I'd be willing to bet it has a smaller diameter speaker in the 14" so comparing it to a 17" isn't fair, but to one in it's size class certainly is.

I know some Asus 17in notebooks (like the W2) have a subwoofer and other audio features designed into them. I would see good audio as a nice bonus, but frankly I'd be suprised to get anything other than the typical 'tinny' laptop sound quality. Of course, I've yet to see a W3j, so I'm just prognosticating.

Those subwoofers didn't turn out to be that phenomenal... but w/e, if you're buying a laptop for the speakers, well... good luck buddy.
