i'm trying to wait for the w3j with merom but i dont know how long i can wait...
my relatives leave CA on october 22...
when do you think should be the latest time i order the w3j before they leave? 2 weeks? 3 weeks?
approximately when would the w3j be released with merom?
it is still quite far away, but time flies nowadays...
thanks!![]()

Wait as long as you can and you'll find out

It'll be out before 10/22..... but I'd give it plenty of time because I know how much of a pain it is when a customer tries to order a computer before they leave a certain location and try to put extra ordinary constraints on us and the shipping companies. As long as they're in stock, give it two weeks just to make sure, but don't try to order it within a week of them leaving, just incase something happens in shipping, but no need to order it 3-4 weeks ahead of time....... but the earilier the better I guess.

October!! Very nice.
I'll wait for mine -
October huh
. What is the approx. price of the the ASUS W3J with Merom. Will the price of ASUS Duo Core be lower or stay the same when it's released.
-
I saw that it is going to be the same price.
-
which one. you mean that the ASUS W3J with Merom will be the same price.

As most can see, the current lineup is all but already extinct...... any shipments of yonah based systems will be very small and that's if the next shipment isn't already merom based. So, there isn't going to be much in the way of price drops if there isn't anything left to drop prices on.
-
So the new W3J will replace the current W3J Duo core based system. If this is so then the price will be the same of 1799.99 plus any special discounts.
Would the new Duo 2 Core make the W3J make the notebook heat even more. -
thanks Justin,
i'll probably be ordering from your shop as well...
i think i'll leave approx 3 weeks just in case... -
heat wise they are practically the same..even battery life..the only difference is increased performance..though this is less noticeable in say gpu limited games
-
oficial intel's report said that core duo and core 2 duo is going to have exactly the same price.
-
Actually, Merom has been touted as releasing less heat and allowing for more battery life, not just more power ( 1). I'm excited for the October release.

When do you think we could start preordering the W3J with Merom?
Also, lets say I would have bought a W3J with a 2.0GHz at the retail price of 1799.99. Would Merom have the exact price of the 2.0 Ghz of 1799.99 or will the base speed which I belive is 1.83Ghz be the price of 1799.99. -

As for the CPU, I would think it would start at the lowest or mid 'speed', like the first W3j(at 1.86).
As well, for the pre-orders, it would be best for dealers not to 'advertise' here, keep all the talk for PMs and Emails, that would be appreciated. -
from notebookforums, one of the dealers said that mass production of Merom won't be available until October 4th, and that's after speaking with Intel. So it sounds like units will be very sparse up till late October or most likely November and on.

hmmm..
hope it comes out in full stock in september, otherwise mite have to get a yonah w3j... ahh want 64bit for maya 8 -
I am going to be ready to buy a W3J this week. Should i wait for a merom? Do you think we will see any video card upgrades or anything else?
Thanks -
I am really confused now, had my heart set out and already preordered a W3J, but may cancel thta preorder and order a W3J with Merom, if battery improves a bit, its 64 bit processor will run Vista better, and if the video cards and etc are better. Also they may fix issues with the screen or something like that. To wait or not to wait that is the questions. October 22 is only about 2 months away. Tough choice.
-
i wouldn't wait for just the merom..if you're going to wait you might as well wait for the next generation w3 with the newer batch of gpus...though it'll likely be nvidia due to amd ati merger
-
october 22 is not when the merom's are coming,
its when my relatives leave for Australia lol -

Computers are worse than cars....... it's worth 10% less than you pay for it by time to take delivery.... and there's always something new every 3 months with huge updates every 9-12 months....... and totally obsolete in 18 months....... yet, any system purchased within the last 18 months should certainly be able to perform for the owner for the next 18-24 months without any sort of a problem.... so if you're going to own a computer, you can't have buyers remorse or at least make sure you get over it quickly... There is ALWAYS something new around the corner, but your life isn't going to change because of it........ computer hardware has been sooooo far in front of software that all they can do is keep making things better and faster to keep making money....... but till the software catches up, there isn't a great reason to update unless theres' something that just really catches your eye.....

Justin, i am very impressed with your statement. Especially coming from someone who would inevitably gain from people being suckered into new machines every few months. It's nice to hear. =) I also love that you are a current poster on these forums--who knows more about Asus than you, right? =)
Personally, I read every tech news update out there and of course, every three months, without fail, some little update is out that will "revolutionize" the way we compute. BS. Somehow my almost six year old Dell Inspiron 8100 (1.11 ghz) runs Office/productivity software and can browse the internet with ease (just needs a new windows install every year or so).
For me, it's the size, style, screen, and battery life that makes upgrades worthwhile. Not particularly in that order. I would love to have a sub 4 lb notebook with a ten hour battery life, 13.3'', and a dedicated video card but unfortunately, it won't be out till 2008. =) I am debating between the w7j and w3j and will wait for memrom to see if Asus changes anything other than the processor choice (which i heard is not a big deal anyways).
I agree with Justin...if you need something now, buy it. If you can wait, wait. But remember that all the time you spend checking notebookreview.com for updates on your favorite notebook, you could be actually browsing notebookreview.com on your new laptop and enjoying all those weeks/months instead of waiting...and waiting...and waiting... =) -
Dose anyone have any experience with the new Merom Core 2 Duo and the
MS-1057/S262
Can you upgrade the BIOS without a possessor installed or do you need to first install a standard Core Duo, upgrade and then swap? How can you find out the BIOS version if no processor has been installed?
