during normal use it is at around 50-61 on the processor temp, and during games it gets to about 70-79... I understand this is normal... al little while ago it hit 100 degrees on the processor, and the other temps readable through speedfan were equally as high. I was using vectorworks and nothing else special was running except some basic apps like steam, windows blinds, and zone alarm... since I quite the program is has gone back down I elevated the unit and it seems to be running exceptable....
anyway, has anyone else ecountered this? have I damaged the unit at all?

are you cloggin up the sucking vent hole in the bottom middle of the W3?
i know mine gets crazy hot when it doesnt turn off in a bag, i mean the lcd gets hot too, maybe you have it blocked or clogged -

I doubt that you damaged your laptop, if a laptop ever overheats it will shutdown as a safety mechanism.
As DuckM4n said, try not to block the vents in anyway, like putting books to block it, using on a couch/bed/pillow or something to that effect, lol.
I would also suggest 2 things, get a laptop cooler for those time you are working on it while on a desk to help cool it down.
Also, undervolt the CPU at higher settings this will also help lower temperatures. (Use RMclock or NHC or whatever else you like to use). -
What is a good program thats a bit more self-explanatory or easier to use then NHC's under volting component? Id like to under volt but i feel like i don't understand how NHC does so enough to do so without damaging something. Any input would be appreciated.

100 deg is quite high for just operating Vectorworks, I have done some reasonable work in ambient temperatures around 35 deg C, even then the fan was pumping out hot air, but the temp never went over 68 deg C.
I have found that if the W3J tries to hibernate and you have a couple of large applications runing, it will not hibernate properly and sometimes pops back and the cooling system does not work, and the temps can get very hot, just gets hotter, untill you restart, or sometimes it will come back if you suspend then resume.
Just beware if your temp goes above 60 degC and you cannot feel or hear the fans going, restart or suspend.
Its only happened to me a few times, but its an easy one to spot, because if the temp is up, and no air comes out of the vents, there must be something wrong. -
ok thanks... I have made an inprompttoo cooler, ie book my wallet under the back to keep it razed.... it stays relatively cool, undervolting is not an option for running crap like vector works, it utilizes both cores quite consitantly. I wonder if my anti virus kicked in for a scan right then too.... hmmm, anyway, problem solved, thanks

I tried to get past 90C as hard as i could but the max i have attained while sitting on a flat surface was 88C. That was with a T7400. I dont know how you managed to hit 100C but i am quite impressed. You should be worrried unless you had it sitting on your bed or couch.

If you don't want to keep your wallet under your laptop, I suggest cleaning out the vent. I too had a problem with it overheating on my W3V. It went from 60 to 70C during normal operation. It would switch itself off when opening apps. Can't even play games on it for a while. Using NHC didn't really help. Then I read about the vent clogging up. Cleaned it out, and noticed a huge difference. Now it's about 45 to 50. And the fans are off most of the time now. It feels so different not having the laptop fan on.
