It should be at the bottom of the laptop... I think you might've confused it with the W7J which has 1 RAM compartment under the keyboard.

Well actually both are rigtht, there is one compartment under the keyboard and another under the laptop. if you remove all the screws and remove the bottom drawer, you will find ram place holder No.1

If you then remove the screws on the bottom marked as K, then you can pop the keyboard off, there is not real latch on the keyboard i just stick a small screw driver in the hole above the keyboard and just pry it up and it pops out, there are several keys that hold it down there is actually 4 along the top and two on the sides, not really latches but more flaps that stick out of the keyborad surround and hold the keyboard down, they are in a clockwise direction.

    Above:
    F1, (between F5 & F6), F10 & Ins

and two in the side beside Caps Lock and PgDn.

The ones along to top bend in when pressed (toward the screen) and the ones on the side are small, you just wiggle it from side to side and it pops off. :D

that should be enough to get you going

Why is that yellow sticker near the heatpipe on picture number 3 that says that warranty will be voided if removed is already almost removed? its the same thing with mine after i upgraded my ram.

but when i opened the bottom of my laptop there was no RAM shown..it looked like an open section to tell you the truth...so u think wheni get the extra ram i should just put it in there instead of opening up the keyboard and all...it looks exactly like urs but where ur ram is...there is an empty slot

I think if you have the newer w3js, they come with 1X 1GB instead of 2 X 512

You got it! as mew1838 mentions if the slot underneath is empty, you will have 1x1gb RAM installed under the keyboard, so when you upgrade just pop the new RAM in the bottom, no need to crack the keyboard.

oh~ gave you a hard time. From Asus default setting for memory, all the 1024MB one stick memory is put under the keyboard. Almost the users before purchasing this don't know about this. Manufacturer is wise to consider the customers' need in the future so that the users can be easy to upgrade the memory themselves on the bottom of it because putting the memory on the bottom is easier than under the keyboard.
    Cheers

I just bought a piece of 1gb ram and it doesnt boot with it in. But when you take it out again, it boots again. Is there just some ram that isnt compatible with the W3J or do you guys think the ram was stuffed in the first place?

Going to take it back to the shops tomorrow and try a second stick.

If you are charged with static electricity you can shock the RAM, so you have to be very careful when handelling, make sure you take off al your jewelry (watches & rings) and some poeple even wear an earth strap on their wrist to make sure any static electricity in their body doesnt shock the system.

At Uni I could run around scuffing my feet on the carpet, walk up to someone and shock them, you could see a small spark jump from my finger (doing all nighters, at 3 am you kinda get bored)

Anyway you should search to see if its compatible, the easiest is if you search the Crucial web site, they have a good search engine that finds teh appropriate RAM for you computer, because every time a new chipset comes out the specs change, you can not just put any old RAM in.
