heya, i'm sort of in the market for a laptop, still... the w3j looks like exactly what I wanted, except that I don't think a WXGA screen will be big enough. Right now I'm using this old x24 thinkpad I bought a while back when I realized it'd be months before I bought a new laptop. I like it except that 1024x768 is killing me (and of course I want a real graphics card). is there any chance of w3j's ever being made with WSXGA screens? or maybe buying one without a screen somehow and putting in a WSXGA one aftermarket? (I've taken laptops apart before, and I've got duct tape ;) )

It won't fit in the frame even. WSXGA has not appeared on any 14" LCD panel yet, not sure if it even will.

I've never seen a WSXGA+ screen in a 14" notebook before... in fact, I've never heard of one period.
However, if it exists out there... you just might be able to install it aftermarket.

Honestly though, WXGA on this notebook size is quite ideal.. however, to each his own.

ah... i'd just assumed they came in that res.. i mean, you can get wuxga in 15.4. ah well, i'll have to hold out for the v1j. (i'm sure i've got that much self control <_<) (think i can get the v1j in wuxga?)

pity though -- that amount of power in that form factor... yeah. would be great.

edit: as always, thanks much for the responses :)

Doubt the V1j will have anything but WSXGA, the demand for WUXGA is not quite high, and the V1j being an ENSEMBLE unit, no way its gonna happen. The market for WUXGA is somewhat there, but not enough to take advantage of.

It might be possible to replace the screen with one of the new 14" WXGA+ 1440x900 screens found in the Dell D620 and LG T1, but you'll have to pay $400-500 extra just for the screen without any guarantees that it'll even work.

leet cow, my desktop screen is a 20" WSXGA (1680 x 1050) and having used a 14" WXGA (1280 x 800) for two weeks, it's almost perfect. Granted, the W3J is 768 and not 800 doesn't matter too much to me. I actually kinda like the "wider" screen. Icons/text definitely won't look too big on a 14" screen.

If you wait for a laptop of this caliber to have a WXGA+ resolution, you're in for a long long wait, my friend.

ah, you know the saying -- "different strokes for different folks"

i guess the w3j isn't for me. i'm not worried about icons and text (WUXGA on a 15.4" looked fine to me), more wanting screen real estate. that's just a size or two too small for my tastes and ... desktop usage style i guess. ;)

i'll wait for the v1j and see what's out then. thanks for the information.

i agree. i love everything about the w3j EXCEPT the screen. i love matte (hate glossy) and i need at least wsxga and with my z70va wsxga+ i just couldn't go back. maybe with the new eye candy of operating systems (and vector graphics) the super high res screens will appeal to the "infraocular" people as well since they can just scale everything up to a size they like.
