    hey guys,

it looks like the battery on my w3v is pretty much dead. Right now, the orange charging LED is on, but according to rightmark, there is no charging rate on the battery, and it's permantely stuck on 0.3% capacity remaining (my system shuts off immediately if i yank the power cord)

Its been progressively dying for the past year, going from just over 4 hours on a single charge to 3, to 2, then falling off expontientally to 10 minutes, 30 seconds, and now, not taking a charge at all. I don't know if there's a way to fix this, or if it's covered under warrantly (though i think that expired a few months back =P)

With that, I would like to get a new battery (hopefully this one will last longer) as I do move my laptop around quite a bit. Most of the places i've looked at are out of stock of w3v batteries, or they only have batteries for the w2v. Does anyone know if the two batteries are the same?

Also, is there a battery module for the hot swap slot? i hardly use CD/DVDs anymore, and an extra battery in that slot would be a lot more useful to me.

    Thanks.

    I think the W2 is a 17" laptop? and the W3 a 14" so I'm pretty sure it won't fit.

Yes you can get the modular bay battery. That's also the one used in the W3J so maybe you'll find it more easily because the W3J is a newer model.

Another option is third-party manufacturers of compatible batteries. Someone else will have to advise you in that area, as I don't have any experience there.

The estore has both the modular and main batteries (or so it appears) here.

I am not sure how old the inventory in the estore is. We sell batteries that are compatible but are manufed in china. the mod batteries last time we ordered were on back order. not sure if they got them in now

    same battery but different color
nothing wrong with 3rd party batteries after all asus batteries are not made by asus
We tested ours and they are very good. Been selling them for over 6 months now no complaints. not sure what the asus warranty on the estore items is, i think its a month but the w3 batteries never had issues.

Im not against using third party batteries as long as its a quality product.

I've actually had a pretty bad experience with this w3v battery - I've had 2 dell laptops prior to the w3v. All three go through similar usage patterns, however both dells are still on their original batteries (both laptops are 2 years older than the w3v), and holding up very well whereas the w3v is the only battery that i've had die on me.

and since im gonna be ordering stuff anyways, anyone have a recommendation on a carrying bag? while the original asus bag is very nice, the sholder strap has been torn, and im looking for something a little slimmer. I only need it to hold the w3v, A/C adaptor, mouse and maybe a 1" notebook (the paper kind ;) )

Question: does the W3J main battery fit into the W3V? Is it the same color? Thanks

I think it fits, but it might not communicate properly with the computer. Unless someone knows better, to be on the safe side I'd suggest you buy the modular bay battery.

I see, I'm just wondering because I think I'll need to replace my main battery soon and the W3V main batteries they sell are probably a few years old and with Lithium batteries that probably means their lifetime is worse than a newer made W3J battery.... is that correct?

thanks g2p! do you know for sure if the W3J battery will fit the W3V though?

oh and g2p, you said in another thread, the mod bay battery won't charge if my main battery isn't charging to 100%, and right now it's not charging to 100% it's stuck at 99%... doesn't always do this though! do you have any more insight on this issue? thanks a lot

I think that's what he was saying.

Did you try a battery calibration on it? Check the BIOS for that option. That might fix the charge stopping at 99% issue.
