The maximum available burning speed also depends on the media: The drive firmware includes a table of media types and the maximum write speeds for the media. These speeds may not be the same as the speed shown on the media. In addition, media not in the firmware table usually default to a lower speed.

The dual layer burning speed may only be 2X. I've never tried because the media prices are currently unattractive.

Which burner do you have? Other people can then advise on suitable media for that burner.

I think dual layer is 4x...... 8x DL drives do +/- R at 8x.... It's not exactly BS marketing, desktop drives are the same way... advertising the fastest it can burn a DVD is important, and showing the newest or "greatest" format is also important...

Again as far as 2x.... that's media dependent.. I've also seen it depend on the burner software used...

    Thanks,
    Justin
