Is PC4300 some kind of rarity? Searching newegg only led to one result from Kingmax. I went on Kingston.com and looking up a w3v, they could only come up with PC4200 modules. Plus all of them are KVR, that's their value Ram right? which is apparently not good.

I guess what i want to know is what i should buy for my w2v....i'm looking for either a 512MB stick or a 1GB stick

Even though I'm 99.99% positive that's just a typo, your W3 (or W2... regardless) both only take up to PC4200 533mhz-- which is ddr2 533.

Kingston's Value RAM sucks, only if it were warranty wise. You're not going to get very low latency ddr2 chips yet from someone like Corsair...... Everything Kingston has comes with a lifetime warranty, but the value ram from Kingston from our experience and experiences from those around the industry is that the value ram is extremely hard to RMA and takes a long time to replace. It also COMES a lot of the time, DOA.... which is just a pain.

Corsiar, again, doesn't have their XMS2 out for so-dimms yet and their value select stuff is still very good and has the same easy of warranty as the XMS always has. We've been using this in our systems for about six months now and prefer it to what Kingston offers. Kingston was our main choice of notebook ram for the past 4+ years though.

You're not going to get much added benefit from going with low-latency RAM in the W3V (or most notebooks, for that matter) without the ability to tell the chipset to use it - also note that even if you could, you'd have to replace your current memory as well to match speeds. Therefore, I see no particular reason why Value lines are going to be any worse off than Premium/Regular brands. I'd say it boils down to price, warranty, and reliability.

If you are going to Dual channel mode, make sure you get MATCHED pair, same specs, otherwise it will be unstable.

Any idea what's the stock w3v latency? as a student the most i could afford would be only another additional stick to make it a gig of ram.

The Kingmax will work fine. That's what I purchased for my W3V and it has been humming along...

The easiest way to check stock latency would be to use Sisoft Sandra or to just look at the presently installed SODIMM - note the markings and look it up online.

In your case, I would grab the 1GB kingston you listed. I have the same ram (though I brought it when it was $112  ) in my W3V and it's been working great. I've also used kingston ram for both my old Dell inspiron 5100 and my sister's notebook, none have failed or die on me.

--the stock latency for the W3V is 4-4-4-11 i think

How would this memory: 'CORSAIR 512MB PC2-4300 DDR2 533MHz SO-DIMM' affect w3v with mixing with its stock 512mb? to double check Dual channel will be enabled right since its both the same pc4300 533mhz model. its only SGD$139.00 in singapore, which is about $80 USD.

I'm not sure if w3v stock ram latency can match average pc4300 latency/timing.. please advice..

    ... you beckoned?

Right now, I have what we sell...... we sell what we do because we've tested it and it's been a great stick for the 5-6 months we've had the need for DDR2.....

Corsair Value Select 512mb DDR2 533 200pin so-dimm........ When Corsair comes out with their XMS2 (the low latency ddr2 XMS sticks) ... I'll be swapping to those myself, but they'll be much more expensive and I probably won't see much performance gains anyway...... but I've got to take one for the team and test out our new stuff (aw shucks).
