Hi, I'm looking at the w3v, but it's a little above my price range. Is the $200 rebate on the w3v right now the best deal I'm going to find on the w3v for a while? Does anyone know if Asus plans on dropping the price anytime before September, or offer a bigger rebate?

I just purchases a W3V! like 1 hour ago. In my personal opinon with all the added accessories and everything that is given to you with options and featres in the W3V right now don't belive you can beat the deal.

I used ProPortable, I haven't recieved the notebook yet. Obviously. The only thing that scares me is that if it comes with a dead pixel i can't return it... it's not covered in the dead pixel policy.

With the $200 rebate, that ends this Friday July 15th, and the extend 1 yr North American warrenty ontop of the 2 yr global warrenty, if it fits your price range i don't think you can get a better deal then this! :asus:

This rebate isn't something you're going to see again. It was a hidden rebate to test their advertising power in mobile magazine and it ended up getting passed around online even though it shouldn't be. However, due to the rebate and the extra year warranty, things have been backed up everywhere. Even us, we've got shipments coming in every other day like usual, but the last week or so has gotten us backed up on shipping W3's by a day or so. Usually all orders for ensemble models get out the next day, but over the last week we've been a day behind on orders because of everyone getting in on that rebate. For instance, orders today won't ship till Friday at least, but their invoice will read the date purchased.... So even if your notebook can't get out till next Tuesday, if an order is in before Midnight on Friday, you'll still qualify for that rebate. Once that's gone, I doubt Asus will even run anything like it again as it was supposed to just test their ad power in a single magazine to decide whether or not they would continue advertising with them. In my view, the way it got passed around online, they're going to think it worked wonders......... but that would be a lie. Perhaps next time they'll make you submit the upc code off the back of the magazine or something like that.

Just don't expect anything bigger. Plus, at the end of this month there is no indication that the extended warranty is going to be extended any further. For a W3v anyway, now is certainly the sweetest time to buy unless you're not in need of a computer for another 6-9 months....... then I'm sure something new will be out that will tickle your fancy.

    Hey,

    When did the rebate begin??

I bought mine, W5A, on June 23 2005 and was wondering if my purchase could be qualified for the rebate from Asus.

    Thanks in advance

Even though the Ad for the rebate features a picture of the w5a, there is no rebate available for it. Go figure. I guess they just didn't pictures lying around with a girl holding a w1 or w3 so they used the picture of another notebook instead. Or maybe they figure the w5 is just so sexy, they wanted to use it in the ad to get more attention. Either way, no rebate for w5, sorry.

You're 1/2 right....... that model was used with the W5... and they used it for the female........ but the w5 wasn't included because it wasn't something they had enough of to run the promo. The facts on the matter actually came out tonight.... I guess we haven't seen it, but overall, the sales of the W3 have cooled faster than they expected, and many reviews still don't come out till next month..... well apparently they got a large shipment from taiwan based on the ever increasing sales, but because reviews aren't out yet, things sort of leveled off....... to make things worse, apparently they got another shippment at the end of last month, of W3s, that wasn't expected till August... So they had to find a way to get rid of them because they simply had too many. This is the reason that the magazine ad that this promo was in........ didn't actually show the promo... you had to go to a certain page where the promo appeared. That page was made up basically the day before I linked to it.... So what started as a small promo they wanted to do to test advertising, turned into what they actually OK'd..... as something they wanted us to promote to help bring their stock back to a normal level.

I think the $200 rebate from Asus that is currently being offered is a better deal than waiting for the price drops coming at the end of July. Currenlty upgrading to a 2.0 ghz processor would cost around $160 more, if after the price drop w3v's start shipping with 2.0 ghz processors instead of 1.86 and keep the same price then you would be basically saving $160, but the $200 rebate outweighs that. Even if w3v's continue to have the 1.86 processor and just come at a lower price, the price drop isnt going to be more than $200.

I think ordering with the rebate is the best deal that you are going to find for many months, however the rebate ends july 15th so you better hurry.

I got it on good word tonight that this rebate apparently did the trick and don't expect it again (unless Asus has too much stock - which is something i've never seen them do till now) and the extra year warranty thing is also going to be history at the end of the month....... no more laptops were sold due to that extra year warranty promo, so it's history and hopefully they'll come up with something better next time........ but for now, this is as good as it's going to get.
