I guess we'll know for sure when one of us finally gets our sweaty palms on one.

Until Taiwan will confirm it in writting to the US office, we won't know.... since they are set to come into Asus' office on Friday, if we don't know before then, we'll know then.

    Thanks,

OK, that explains it. I always thought of ASUS with single headquarter, with just smaller branches throughout the world. Explains why each countries gets different models and such.

Anyhow, I'm getting the W3V no matter what. I'd just prefer the cooler one though. :)

Can you elaborate on the whole purpose/process of the confirmation in writing? It's kind of confusing to me since the US will evidently get a single model by Friday and I don't see how the confirmation in writing has any effect to it.

It's quite simple actually and doesn't have much to do with you. Legally though... until I know I can't say one way or the other and would rater err on the side of the "less nice" model. At the same time, Asus beleives that they ordered the "nicer" model and didn't want to be surprised when they didn't get it. If they had in writing that they were getting the "nicer" model, then I could tell all of you and it would certainly increase sales. At the same time, if they had it in writing, and it turned out to be false, Asus would have the right to send the units that are arriving, back to Taiwan, in exchange for the right units. Asus' US office is like an end-user in many ways. They are a subsidiary of Taiwan and they purchase systems like you would from us. They purchase on what options are available and if they "assumed" the palmrest was metal, but lets say.... there wasn't an option for that.... then it's sort of their own fault and that's going to have to be what they live with. Is that a little better to understand? This sort of stuff usualy isn't pertinent to you, the end-user.. because whatever is going to be available, is whats going to be available period. You're judging your purchase or whatever based on the best information at the time and right now the ONLY thing unconfirmed is that palmrest. If that is what sets you over the edge one way or the other... you've obviously got to wait to decide what you do.

    Thanks,
    Justin

Right....... I don't know if it's for import reasons, or just the way they want their business set up.... but I am pretty sure most companies like Asus work that way.

Which, you're right.. it explains a lot. Every product manager goes to Taiwan and decide what they want to sell in their country... color, materials, configuration, etc......
