    hi guys!

so i've had my w3v since last august... could not be happier at all... enough power to run p-shop/acad/indesign all at once

this morning after i turned on my machine i noticed the "asus" image that first pops up wasn't the usual white... it kinda flickered with some purple...

then the whole windows logo startup deal kinda went green and all...

when i got to my desktop the colors were a mess...

i think the screen is to blame here... the machine is working fine... i'm actually using an secondary lcd to type this up right now...

i called asus and they want me to send it in so we've got tht process started

i just wanted to know if anyone else has had the same/similar issues? with it being less than a year old... i'm just really curious for clues to why this might have happened... and i'm slightly wary about the other components

also for people who have sent their machines in to the fremont facility... has turnaround time generally been pretty decent? classes just ended today [thank god this didn't happen 2 weeks ago] so i'm not tht attached to it but it'd be nice to have it back asap

    thanks!

The lcd cable is probably loose. Happens sometimes. The cable connecting it to the PC. another possiblility is the GPU is having issues. But im willing to bet its the cable. I wouldnt worry about the other components are you said its working fine, and this issue prob isnt realated to anything else. You will get your pc back in like a week dont worry to much asus will take care of it.

    thanks SRD!

after i posted i did a more extensive search and i found a couple threads with people having similar situations and it most likely being the lcd cable

    i'll hope for the best

    thanks again!

Asus in fremont has great service though. They are pretty quick with their turnaround time also.

I'm with Steve on the cable..... it's not a common thing, but I've seen it happen and I'd be aware of it down the road.... bumps and just rough play with the system could jar the cable enough to pull some of the pins out. I've seen it on my W3 and we've had a customer with a Z63 with the same problem..... I think it's because of the location of the pin which slides horizontally into place (which has more room to pull out) than if it were snapped perpendicular to the motherboard and have no where to go because it'd be pushed against the top case.

I had the exact same problem with my w3v about 6 months ago. Got an RMA# and was about to send it back.

The problem was definitely a loose cable though. After toying around with the screen for a while, I was able to get the cable back in place myself. No problems since then.

Whoa, great to know. My sister's friend whom I set up with a Z63A said she is having problems with the screen turning off by itself once in a while or something.

I'm going to have a look-see for her.

I'm so surprised that these cables can come loose like that. Don't they have locking mechanisms on them? Some kind of latch?

    Anyways, great info.

I have this same problem the screen goes blank for no reason to fix it i move the lcd screen a little. Where is this connector in the lcd? I think mine is loose. The connector under the keyboard seems secure. thanks

I have a z63a and My whole screen went Purple...couldn't see anything but purple, I was really worried.....so I turned off the computer right away, started it again and it was fine. But this was a few hours ago and since I just have kept it turned off. Am I in the same situation or is this a different circumstance?

    Thanks!
