Model has only been announced, not released.

No info on pricing has been published, but it's going to be in the upper echelon of Asus product line - @ listed specs I'm going to say some distance above $1500.

It has not been released in the states. If it does should be in the next few weeks. it was anounced in asus magazine 2 months ago. Final price will be over 2000$ under 2400$

LOL, ok, I want in on the fun...... so I am going to make a prediction (and everyone take note)...... $1,999.00 for the first U.S. model (W90Xp-X1). Let's see who will be the most accurate! :D

(Hmmmmm...... did I forget to say where & when?) :D

Well, you know how those 'predictions' go...... yeah, I am outta my mind, aren't I? ;)

    More predictions:

The first U.S. model will be the W90Vp-X1, being offered at a very nice introductory exclusive price. Available soon, it will feature:

    1.) Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor T9600, 2.8Ghz
    2.) Windows Vista® 64-bit Home Premium
    3.) 6GB DDR2 800 MHz SDRAM, 3 x SODIMM
    4.) 18.4 WUXGA Resolution 1920x1080
    5.) ATI Mobility™ Radeon® HD 4870 (x2), 1024MB VRAM
    6.) A single 320GB, 7200 rpm HDD
7.) DVD Super Multi Double Layer (I have already ordered a 4x LG GWB-T10N Blu-Ray writer to replace this)

    http://www.blu-raydiscnews.com/2007/...ok-drives.html

8.) Mobile Intel® X38 Express Chipset (Yes, this will be the chipset.... cutting edge in mobility, this will be replacing the performance PM45 chipset in this model.)

Though this laptop allows overclocking, it can not be user clocked, but rather 4 pre-set selectable clocking modes (turbo)..... for up to a 25% performance increase.

Also, a quad can be added in the future, if desired.

    Hope this helps..... ENJOY!

Ummmmm...... just another prediction, but "no later than" 23 Feb 2009. I wonder if anyone has considered, ASUS's W90 may well be the first commercial production to introduce ATI's new 4870's?

(which means for some..... apparently, the 4870 cards are already available) :D

I have a feeling that the W90 are out already, but just not released yet by Asus. They're still sitting at the warehouses in Taiwan and Asus is waiting to clear their existing inventories before launching a new product :)

Yep, they are out..... appeared on ASUS Feb. sales sheet...... just waiting on resellers, and they don't seem to be talking, LOL! :D

In the ASUS forums, a guy from Russia reportedly already has the W90V model...... ? He reports 14519 marks on 3D Mark 06, with ATI 3850X2 cards. (which I question...?)

Now how to get it into my home in Canada at the lowest cost ?
I took a beating from UPS when I bought 6860 from a member here.
For a $1000 sale UPS charged me $250 extra upon delivery for whatever charges they probably make up.

atleast not until nvidia debuts its next line of gpu ... early next year ...

well then ... the race is between them ocz extremes, them m17s, and them w90s ... all equiped with them 4870s ...

The OCZ Extreme (actually called the OCZ Whitebook and Arima W840 on non-xoticpc planets) is actually a M17 and vice versa.

The first U.S. sales will be configured as I posted earlier.

I doubt you will see SSD's or DDR3. An SSD can certainly be added, if you like, but there isn't presently, a significant performance increase advantage (if any) with DDR3..... and then there is higher latency. ASUS knows this, and there is plenty of data is out there supporting this..... DDR2 will not slow the W90. One has to ask themself..... why design a NEW laptop mobo, with an X38 chipset (which also supports DDR3), and then slot the mobo for DDR2? I feel we are more likely to see DDR3 in a future ASUS model, when the Mobility i7's become more the rave. :D

My question is, does one NEED an SSD, or will a solid 7200rpm HDD do for now?

No doubt, SSD's are the BOOM right now and many can't wait to go this route, but like everything else in this market...... it's ever changing, and FAST! :D

I personally, am waiting on SSD's to become more stable (in regards to read/write efficiency), higher capacities, more cost effective, and more STANDARDIZED! :)

Compatibility should not be an issue, and you install them as simply as an HDD.

Interesting how the guy in the first vid said that it won't cost as much as we think. This leaves me to believe that ATi is going to make a full-on assault against nVidia in the notebook/mobility market in terms of pricing. A 9800M GTX card still costs around $700-800, GT around 500-600, GTS $450, and I think that's part of the reason why nVidia-equipped high end notebooks are extra expensive (aside from Gateway FXes). Even Dell, it seems, is hovering towards ATi as their latest notebook offerings don't have an option for nVidia GPUs other than the workstations.

Hopefully nVidia will start to offer more performance for less cash in the notebook/mobile market.

This is already the case, especially in desktops ATI cards are quite a bit cheaper. you can get a 3870 crossfire in a notebook for $250 try seeing how much itll cost for a 9800 GT SLI its a HUGE difference.

the reason i want to put an SSD in my notebooks as well is heat.
In some reviews i have read people have noticed DRAMATIC difference in heat with an SSD thats what makes it interesting for me.

hehe, that's it, we don't want any other discussion here other than the "price of the unit" j/k
ssd would b really nice but I'll b looking into it when prices drop a little, for now they'r still the "new" thing and cost quite a lot for the ammount of space u get.

Those links are simply early press releases, and the suggested price is speculation on the part of a reader. I do not think you will see those high prices. The U.S. price I quoted, comes directly from an ASUS FEB. sales sheet, and I confirmed this with several different agents of their 'Pre-Sales' department. As with all things, this could be subject to change (I doubt it), but we shall see soon. :)

Sorry, but those are not "early" press releases, are from today. Asus has sent this information to spanish sites. Also, the price is not a speculation or something. It says clearly "The ASUS W90VP will be avaible at mid March at a price of 3199 €".

From my own experience, when a company says in a press release that his product is going to have "X" price, it comes true 99% of the times.

In any case, U.S. price should not be the same. Usually, talking about European and North American prices, U.S. prices are always better. I mean, if a laptop costs 2000 € in Europe, it usually costs less in dollars in the U.S. But this is just speculation from my side, of course.

    Anyway, we'll see.
