I have the G51 from best buy. Bored at work here and decided to look thru the processes running.
Came across wdc.exe
Google seems to have two sides of the fence on this one.
#1 it belongs to watchdog and is a keylogger
if that's the case then I'm terrified right now
#2 it belongs to Asus ATK
if that's the case then I feel a little better but want to know if you all have it running as well.
Thanks
Monk
** By the way...It's my own pc. Not company's. So it should NOT have any keylogger or spyware. Unless a website or two I've visited have bitten me. DOH!!
*** I have ms security essentials and it reports nothing
**** I have xoft spy portable and it reports nothing
***** I have tried avast on the U3 usb drive and it reports nothing

I have that process running too. I don't think its a keylogger.
-
I have it too on my N61
-
check below to find that it is an Asus hotkey program:
1. first check the location. It should be under path C:\Program Files\ASUS\ATK Hotkey\WDC.exe
2. the process name should be in upper case "WDC.exe"
3. check the MD5 checksum: d3917821614cf44f8658b74dafc59520. file version: 1.0.0.10 -
Excellent. Thanks for the replies.

I've been wondering all day what this thing was on my process list too. I also have an ASUS.
So it is a safe legitimate process isn't it? Belongs to ASUS? -
Yes its legit and belongs to ASUS with the ATK hotkeys.
-
Good to hear! I was wondering because I ran Avast! scan and it didn't find anything at all on my laptop. Since so many people have it on theirs, it has to be legitimate.
Thanks! -
If you do a fresh install (with legit MS disks) with manufacturers driver disks (and w/ antivirus as the first install after windows) and it still shows up, it's safe to assume it's clean. Not always .. manufacturers have been known to accidentally include malware, but GENERALLY speaking, this is a good way to "check".

Ah, I couldn't be bothered to do all that work. I'm assuming it's safe since every other person on this thread that has an ASUS also has it. Not including the file location, and what it does.
wdc.exe *Does it belong to ASUS? or is it a keylogger?
