i am about to pull the trigger on a w3j and i was wondering if it was ever going to come with a built in webcam a la the w7j, the dell 1210, or the sony sz?

i know it seems like a small deal, but i use a webcam a ton on the road.

    thanks!

    Unfortunately, the W3J doesn't have a webcam....

They'd have to redesign it (to accommodate the camera on the lid bezel and the wiring...etc) - you're more likely to see a new model similar as the logical successor rather than from the W3 series.

maybe check out A8Jm, it has a webcam

my advice would be to buy an aftermarket on, they are so much better...

Its not just that, but sometimes you want to point the camera somewhere other than where the laptop is facing. You're not going to use it all the time and a webcam would only take up minimal storage space in your travel bag.

i have been beating myself up back n ' forth b/t the w3j and the w7j and was finally hapy and going to just grab the w3j but that darn little webcam slapped me in the face. or better said, was not there TOO slap me in the face. =)

i have heard that the w3j is one of the best built notebooks out there, beating even the w7j. and truth to that?

seems like the size is not that much of a difference. weight is comparable. just seems like the screen is money decision.

anybody have reasons to push me one way or the other? =)

i've had my W3J for a few days now and I love it, if that helps. Build quality is superb, performance is top-notch, and cosmetically, it's amazing...

Yeah, take a look at the A8Jm if you don't mind sacrificing a bit of looks and material quality, everything else is top notch and at the same level as W3J, and it has DVI, webcam and more USB ports than W3J.

Underpantman also said it.... it is cheap(er) :)) had to put this in - it still put quite a dent in my wallet) compared to the W3J

all make good points...im a sucker for a good lookin laptop tho, especially when i am paying 2k+ for it. =)

right now it seems I am down to the w3j, sony sz, and the w2j. i am going to wait for the new core 2 chips to come out anyways so I guess I have to wait a few more weeks (at least unfortunately).

with the extended battery and the extra modular battery put in, how long will the w3j last? 4+ hours watching dvd?

yes, you could get 4+ hours with the modular battery watching dvd's. I would suggest the W3J if you are looking for looks as well. My other option would have been A8Jm, but it seems like you've made your mind and you want the more sexy laptop. So just pick up a webcam and modular battery and bam, you've got the laptop you want.

V1j is a 15.4 screen. Release date had been rumored to be tentatively set for sometime in early Fall, but there are indications that Asus may delay until it can ship directly with Merom chips rather than Yonah CDuo. Expected availability has not be given to any of the resellers yet, it appears, although it does seem that it will eventually make its way into the US sometime in the Fall. It's going to be a great system by all accounts, and a worthy successor to the Z70va (the last great Ensemble-based 15.4 model that was available in the States in '05).

Each one of your models is a different screen size, all with decent to good dedicated graphics - it would seem once you work out the screen your choice will be made :).
