Even though it has BT built-in, the functions are limited.

I think it's something to do with software, not the hardware itself.

Perhaps you can work it with 3rd party software to work with the BT chip instead??

I have to try to see it for myself too.

Actually.... you know what... I really didn't make a whole lot of use out of the BT in my devices until quite recently... the most I did was set up a bluetooth mouse before. Once I played around with it for a while I got my headset, a gps unit, my cell, another computer, etc all hooked up and working well.

so...technically a bluetooth 1.2 cellphone would see the W3V but W3V won't see the cellphone?
in order to transfer files, the W3V must see the cellphone right...
no firmware to upgrade it right

cuz i'm planning on getting a new cellphone and the one i have my eyes on has bt 1.2. That phone is a mp3 player too..so it'd be really useful to transfer mp3s over to the phone... but just wanna make sure this is possible before buying the phone.

Doesn't work like that. Bluetooth versions are backwards compatible so they can discover each other and communicate just fine. The biggest enhancement from BT1.1 to 1.2 is some link quality enhancements allowing, among other things, for higher definition audio.

To know what you can and can not do with two Bluetooth devices you need to know what profiles they support.

Edit:What version of the Bluetooth stack does the W3V ship with? You can check out the capabilities of the Toshiba driver here. Note that the updated files on that page won't install on an Asus notebook without manually unpacking and adding the proper device ID to the .inf file.
