Centrino is a chipset. Merom is the codename to the processor.

    ok thanks for info
    i have another question i saw asus x85se with core2duo 2.16,2gb ,320hd and ati 4570hd with 512 mb...this laptop has same price of m50vc which has less specifications like core2duo 2hgz,2gb ram,320 hd,nvidia 9300m gs
and im planning to buy the x85se but the similarity in price with a lower model made me hesitate
so since i saw only the support page for the x85se without any specifications on asus main website...i assume they stopped makin that model?
and is it better compared to m50vc?

Centrino is Intel's platform for certified power saving parts. For example, for a notebook to be labeled a "Centrino 2" like mine, it would need a certain chipset, processor, and Wi-Fi card.

Eg. My laptop has an Intel Core 2 Duo P8400, a PM-45 chipset, and an Intel Wi-Fi 5100 AGN card, so those parts are parts that are within the Centrino 2 platform.
