which advantages do i get from switching into RAID mode on my g50vt-a1 ?

Are you referring to raid 0 or raid 1?

this will explain all you need to know...

What is the difference between raid 0, raid 1 and no raid if i have 2 identical HDD's such those 320gb 7200rpm that comes with the G50vt-A2? -

Simple Explanation
Raid 0 splits data between both hdd's making both into one virtual drive and in theory doubling speed in some situations as you have 2 drives working.
Raid 1 mirrors data between the drives making both drives into one virtual drive, if one breaks you have a duplicate of all the data on the other and wont lose your data. No speed boost and loss of storage space but near impossible to lose your data when a hdd fails. -
hmm nice .. in which situations will they increase their speed?
i always thought it will be increased by installing ressource-heavy apps on the 2nd hdd and on the 1st one is windows -
One important addition, while it does increase speed (by how much in real life I do not know, research would be needed) -- RAID0 also decreases reliability by a fair amount; since now if ANY of the two harddrives fails, ALL the data is lost (rather than just the data on the failing HDD, in the non-RAID case).
So keep those backups up to date with RAID0! -

Raid 0 speed increase....
Its for large continious files, so mostly video editing is what is good for. Little of anything else.
Most games use several small files, and small files can load slower on raid 0, so for the few big files it may have it breaks about even.
Boot time is again lots of small stuff, most of what you do is always small files.
If your a professional photoshop person you may work with very large images, it could help there too I suppose but I have never worked with an image so large I needed raid 0. 150dpi 8.5x11 is the largest I work with usually. -
It can help with certain games. It just depends on how the game files are set up. I ran a few benchmarks:
