what is "ATK0100 ACPI UTILITY"

Its on the website for download from Asus support but i dont know what it is. Im going to do a clean install of my OS and was wondering if i need this? What does it do?

edit:just noticed a few other things:

-INTEL Inf Update
-CPU HOTFIX Utility
-Wireless Console
-UAA bus driver and Audio driver (different from Realtek HD Audio driver)

what are they and do i need them after doing a clean OS install?

I believe that is for all the hotkeys, such as the TouchPad, BT(if appliable), Wireless, etc.

 

It has do to with the motherboard and a power specification. See Advanced Configuration and Power Interface.

 

it is an Asus motherboard and hotkey driver (HControl) package.

HControl allows you to use your function button in conjuction with the F1-12 keys and InstantOn or other non-keyboard buttons.

ACPI allows programs like NHC to monitor temperatures

so, yeah, you probably need it.

 

It is for hotkeys. And yes you need all of them. always download all the drivers for something. The ones that come with windows suck.

 

You may also want to install P4G or NHC or RMclock to manage your system.

Also get the latest graphic drivers, this will help for gaming and video display.

You will also need the synaptic drivers for the touch pad.

I usually install everything the CD comes with on a clean OS install... unless there's an update on the ASUS website with a newer version.
However, the Intel INF update is most likely a CPU database update for Windows, the CPU HOTFIX is something I'm not sure of... but you should probably install it anyway (although you won't know what it does... they include it for a reason, do they not?). It probably helps Windows understand the CPU you're using and thus it will know how to optimize it's operation and know its cooling states... etc.
The Wireless Console helps you control your wireless LAN and bluetooth... essentially, it's a tool that helps remember which wireless devices you had on before you enter standby/hibernate. Without it, your bluetooth and wireless LAN will be turned off by default when you resume from standby/hibernate.
The UAA audio stuff is needed for sound and something else I think... but it's needed for sure.

I am installing everything else from the website (P4G, Winflash etc) its just that i wasnt sure about those programs i mentioned at the start.

I need the hotkeys so will install the ACPI thingy, which version is buggy? If its the one from the web then i'll stick to the one on my CD. I'll install UAA because i need sound but what else does it effect?

Im hesitant about installing unkown programs like the CPU hotfix/INF so i probably wont unless i encounter problems.

The CPU hotfix is required to make Windows XP work properly with dual core CPUs (Google around and you can find benchmarks that compares performance before hotfix/after hotfix, quite some difference).

Also, the Intel Inf is somewhat required, as that tells Windows a bit more about your hardware, and how to treat it.

Hey all,
I just got my w7j today and did a clean install of XP. I wanted to clarify a couple of things:

1) Is the ATKACPI utility required? --> I didnt realize P4G was under this.

2) How do I get rid of the annoying RealTek Audio icon in the system tray? It's consuming 40 mb of memory and killing the app doesn't kill the audio. --> Remove this via Msconfig - does not affect audio or so it seems.

I guess that's it for now, will post more questions soon

 

ASUS tech support emailed me a newer version that what is listed on the webpage of ATKACPI utility. Works fine now. Email them if you have issues, they will give you a newer version (why its not on the website, I dont know)

 

Would it be against forum rules to have gizbug post that newer version here? If not, what is the version number and the email address you used gizbug?
