At first I really like the idea. After exploring this a little more, it's a lame useless thing!! It would be really nice if you could display system's status and few other usefull information. Any one thought one this?

You can use it the MSN Messenger, it will show who comes online. it does show the time aswell.
I wouldn't call it useless, since both of these types of use are usefull, because when I am gaming I would like to know who is coming online.
Also if I am not wearing a watch and the game doesn't have an internal clock system, then you can easily look down at the OLED LCD and check what time it is.
The Direct Console manages your flashing lights on the side, which is also works when your gaming, blinking on and off. -
MSN sounds good. I am using Vista. I noticed there is checkmail hook for mail. Is ther a such hook for MSN? OKay call me stupid, but I couldn't find any place that I can configure MSN to work on directconsole. Yes, clock is the only thing I got out of it. Thanks

i thought it was a waste of effort and money as well. i can alt tab out of whatever just as easy as i can look down at the little lcd. instead of that they could have integrated a koyboard light or a fingerprint reader or even an ambient light sensor. either one of those 3 would be 100X more useful
what's really a purpose of Direct Console?
