There is one similar to the G71X-RX05 but is there one better? What version is the one similar to the RX05?

Best Buy has a G51vx-RX05 with lower resolution screen and a 2.0 GHz CPU. Newegg has versions with a 2.5 Ghz for $1300 or a 2.8 GHz for $1550. Both are out of stock at the moment. After that is the A1 model that can be customized by Xoticpc and other resellers.

I think the X1A is the best version and value. I bought the X2A which is identical but with a faster processor. I'd have saved $ and gotten the X1A if it was in stock.

Is there a noticeable difference between the X05 and X1A?

The flat out best is the X2A, but generally, you'll find that everyone will recommend the X1A, as it is the best bang for your buck at the moment.

I'd definitely recommend the X1A if you can find it.

Yeah, i got the X2A, but i think theres no difference between it and the X1A... mine was in stock, i wanted it... i got it. And its not the end of the world that i got a faster processor, so basically it doesn't matter at all. Any of the newegg ones are great for gaming, not sure about quad though....

haha not exactly...got my A1 for 1244 after rebates/bing cashback. beat that deal!!!! i was way too lucky. love my machine, the razer copperhead+targus bag+eee sticks are awesome. the razer is for on-the-go gaming (mamba left in my room), bag is perfect size for laptop + a *few* books and the eee sticks are fun for controlling the mouse. + C2Q and 640GB HDD = ultimate win!!!

To the OP I see that your selling your laptop on marketplace. It is the g71, and you say its to big/heavy but the G51 is almost the same weight and size, so if you going as far as to sell the g71 cause of weight, then you probally wont be happy with the g51. high end gaming =/= light weight laptop.

I was considering the A1 but then decided the slow clock rate on the Q9000 wasn't worth it.

How much did you pay out the door?

    G71: 40.6 x 29.5 x 4.6cm
    G51: 37.1 x 26.2 x 4.1cm

I'd say the G51 would be a good choice in size for university.

At factory clocks or when overclocked?

Factory + increased temp from 4 cores wasn't appealing.

You just proved my point exactly. The dimensions are almost exactly the same and its only about 1 1/2 pounds lighter weighing in a 7.3. Which is well over what someone concerned about size/weight would want to carry to class everyday. Why would someone go through all the trouble and lost money just for the petty difference in size. Seems ridiculous to me.

hahah o yea forgot bout u element. nice, some "idiot" bought it and sold it within a week rite? wow that is truly lucky. btw, c2q is actually better now, the heat is no different, i think... at full blast crysis it reaches 65C @ 2.35ghz OC. idk what C2D get, but i can tell that in multitasking C2Q is going to become standard. but moving from P4 to C2Q is a DAM BIG difference, thats all i know. one thing i dont understand, why do ppl diss the G51 speakers? it is plenty loud, just not enuf bass. i need to buy some of dem swan speakers, those are nice!!
