I have the same problem. The status page says "Pending for proof of purchase", despite me having sent it in twice. I sent a a question in to the support system at the end of September and got a response within 3 days, after which I sent in the proof. Nothing changed after that, so I sent another email in 2 weeks ago, but haven't received anything back yet.
My guess would be that they are swamped trying to fulfill existing orders and support questions, and that lots of people are falling through the cracks.

I'm sorry. I thought your question was rhetorical.

As sertafu said, I also expect they are being flooded with updates. Tons of people put off buying computers until this summer when the win7 upgrade offer went into effect. So in addition to the normal millions of computers sold in a normal month, you also saw additional laptops sold this summer.

There are approximately $32 million laptops sold each year. With Windows 7 coming out, many people who would have bought those laptops in Jan through June waited.

Asus is one of the largest Laptop ODMs and probably has about 10-15 percent of the ODM market, so the fact that you did not get your upgrade disk two days after Win 7 came out is not all that surprising.

    Be patient.

I was worried about this exact problem. I am glad i waited till Thursday to buy the new laptop. I remember people getting there free Vista upgrades 2 months after release. (Which was a blessing in disguise really!!!) I sure hope they have a better system in place this time.
    Good Luck!

I somehow doubt it. I think this was the main reason for allowing the RC to expire in 2010, anticipated delays. Funny though you didn't see them advertise it as "Free Windows 7 upgrade sometime in 2010!"..........

I think they ship these out in bulk, so don't count on getting it anytime soon. Get a copy of the RC if you can't wait.

I don't know why they can't give you a coupon at the store when you buy an "upgradeable PC" that you can return to the store for the upgrade DVD when it is released...sure sounds simple enough to do to me

The problem then lies in release date stock. The stores depend on having stock that they can generate revenue from. If they handed out all those coupons there would be a mad rush and little to no generated cash flow. Also cost control of shipping, media, store operations, lost store revenue from people not being able to shop around the mad rush and a host of other issues fall into place.

Agreed nice for the consumers but a nightmare for the market...........

I'm sorry, I guess you wanted someone from Asus to handle your query personally?

If you can't understand that it could take months to get your disc, well good luck. From memory, my Vista "upgrade" arrived 2-3 months after it was released to consumers.

You also have to rememeber the Asus is not handling the upgrade media. It is being done by an outside media company that also is handling the upgrade for other companies as well.............

I would not mind waiting for the upgrade if Asus could answer two questions:

    1. When will upgrades ship?
    2. What will they cost?

I do understand that they have a lot of requests and that there are a lot of discs to ship. But this is not a surprise to them. They know how many laptops they shipped and what the release date was. I am not demanding an immediate shipment from them, just basic information. If they say two months and $20, I will buy the Pro version for $30 through school. If they say $10 and ships tomorrow, than I'd get my upgrade from Asus.

In the days of vista they made me wait 4 months after the date where Vista was gererally available before they shiped the vista upgrade CD plus driver CD to me.
For some of the models on the upgrade program so far they did not make Win7 drivers avialable on their website, which looks like they will take some time until they start to ship out the Win7 upgrade CDs. :(

I didn't get a cost either (0.00)... maybe it's because I live in Texas and we don't have state taxes?
    Guessing here :p ...
I do understand your frustration Sahugani, I with the many others have not had our status update changed (or changed back and forth often) and have no clue when these CD's will be shipped.
I also side with one of the posters here on this thread and wonder why Asus (or any computer company for that matter) is not offering this Free Windows 7 upgrade with just a coupon to pick it up at your local Best Buy...

my experiences from asus over this last year is making me re-think ever buying from them again. whether dealing with their eestore, or getting actual info from them about anything, its always way more trouble than it should be.

sent in my proof of purchase 3 months ago, status always said pending proof of purchase, and i emailed them 2 months ago and they said "when 7 comes out the status will change"
    it didnt
i emailed them 4 days ago about it,
    no response yet....

ive bought 2 asus laptops, and this one will probably be my last unless they seriously get their act together...

I agree, I might go Gateway next time if I had to deal with this Windows 7 upgrade program loops. The Gateway 79XX series comes with a better cooling system [of 2 fans] and a GTX 260m Stock not underclocked, has finally been released after all :p...

I have specifically asked the Asus rep here in the forums about the fees for the upgrades, and the answer I was given was "around $20 depending on what state you are in." Despite the fact that no-one has been charged, Asus has made no official announcement about this. They may still ask for a fee, or they may not. They should at least inform their customers directly on their web page, instead of giving conflicting and unclear information.

Right next to the "Please select your language" at the top is a "Contact Us" link. From what I can tell, Mentor Media is not just screwing up Asus orders. They are handling most of the major laptop vendors, and can't seem to cope with the volume.
