im looking to get an asus g50vt x5 (i think they have it at best buy?) or something close to it. I have no class, so i think its crazy lighting bolts and shish are fine for me, as long as i get decent battery life.

anyway, i looked through a couple of resellers, namely ecomelectronics.com and some others from that reseller thread. i was kind of scared though, as i would like the process of getting this "extinct" laptop to be almost painless.

on that note, though, what is with all of the seemingly perfectly priced laptops like the g50vt x5 to become just refurbs? seems like they fit a pretty sweet spot as a 15" with decent battery life+processor +vid card. i cant really find anything like it and the laptops are usually worse or are more expensive for the same kind of thing.

sorry for so many words, this is my first post. if someone could point me to where i could get one of these laptops for about 800 including shipping (i live in cal) that would be great. it seems like this is a pretty popular laptop, but if there are others i should be looking at and considering please let me know.

ps i love newegg, but seeing as i live in california i get lots of extra taxes that i have to pay if i go newegg, ie 800$ turns into about 980$ =(
so try not to link me newegg

I completely agree about these laptops hitting the sweet spot for price and performance. I got my X1 about 8 months ago when it had just dropped below 1k--what a deal!

Here's the X5 which Best Buy sells now for $849. ( http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=9173262&type=product&id=1218044029168). Even refurbs aren't much cheaper.

Tigerdirect is fairly reliable, though not as good as Newegg. They sell both the X1 and X5 refurbished, though they are both out of stock right now. They should have some more in in the next few days I would think.

    X1: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicat...No=4623267&sku=F12-150007&srkey=Asus G50VT-X1

    X5: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicat...No=4786505&sku=F12-150009&srkey=Asus G50VT-X5

As you probably know, the only difference between these two is that the X1 has a 2.26Ghz C2D and a 6-cell battery, while the X5 has a 2.13Ghz C2D and 9-cell battery. (And of course, there's different art on the cover.)

If you're interested in a 17in laptop the Gateway P-7805 has a higher res screen (1440x900) and a slightly better graphics card (GTS 1GB instead of GS 512MB) and a 9 cell battery It also happens to be in stock at Tigerdirect for $850.

I don't believe there's tax in Ca. if you buy from Tigerdirect.

    Good luck!

Just got mine on Tuesday from the CompUSA website. Shipped for right under $800. Very pleased with the product so far; I was worried about it being a refurb, but it seems to be just fine.
