as the title says, just wondering which asus models come with the "Splendid video technology"? For those who have it (all W3 owners) is it any good?

Well, it seems that almost all the new ASUS models(ENSEMBLE and not barebones/VBI) all have it, W5f, W3j, A8jm, though unsure of the W2j, V6j, etc.

Asus splendid video is nothing more then a software driver that allows for quick pre-programed color modification. I think they all have it. Really not the greatest feature. Sounds alot better then what it does.

Yeah it sounds a lot better than what it does. It IS handy from time to time but I would be happier if I could've programmed that button to do something else instead.

A better answer would be that all Asus Ensembles the have the CORE DUO, have Splendid. Splendid is built into the driver for the video card. Splendid detects the activation and usage of video applications and automatically optimizes image quality for the best visual results.

    A bit overated it is...

    It's a buzz word.

There's that niche user though that is pumped that they can cycle through and find the best preprogrammed setting for themselves though...

...and buddy - I know you're out there.

It does not detect anything. Its just a soft switch on laptops. Pre-programed color modes. Ambient light sensor detects ambient light and adjust the brightness. splendid does not detection work. Just a simple program, an assortment of code. Asus is taking the sony approach of marketing weird but popular names that mean didly squat. Obviously its catchy. I have not noticed the color correction take place between viewing your desktop and movies. Has anyone else noticed it? The same splendid program can be applied to any other pc or laptop.

Yeah, it's actually just a switch activated - color correction program. Nothing more, nothing less. I would've preferred the button for something else also...

xotic: I don't believe it detects and auto changes, mine has to be changed manually with the Splendid button.

Not entirely correct. It does detect activation and usage of video applications and automatically optimizes image quality for the best visual results as Asus states on their site. It is suppoed to auto detect, when Splendid is being utilized. :)

Splendid further provides five modes for best visual results in different video applications (Standard, Game, Theater, Scenery and Night)

Your saying ASUS is providing misinformation about Splendid on their own site? That is doubtfull.

This same information i have shared here is on multiple places on there site. They advertise and post this information because it is accurate. :D

Good luck if you continue to copy info of their site. Dont take my word for it take the word of any veteran here. You need to do your own research. Everyother joe can read a website. The descriptions and specs asus provides are almost always partially inacurate. If you dont know this yet you really should buy all these notebooks and play with them before you sell them. You really have no place arguing with me here. 90% of the active users here know more about the product that you sell then you do based on your helpfull 50 comments. If you are going to sit here and convince me that asus.com has acurate info its just goes to show yet again you have no idea what youa re talking about. Please for the love of your reputation stop and take my word for it. I can sit here and make farting noises all day long and it wont hurt me or how people perceive me and my. You on the other hand need to read this entire forum and pay attention in particular to the veteran users and resellers and what they have to say. I am not trying to beat you with experience, i am not one to rub peoples nose in it but if you continue on your path i am just going to repeat it. if i said their site is not accurate please take my word for it i do know what i am talking about. I am not talking about spledid any more. I am generalizing

How about lets find out if anyone actually uses the splendid, and what for? I like the "theater" mode most of the time because it's a warmer color and IMO less eye strain. The rest of them I hardly ever use.

Asus making this features is better than nothing. At least, it can give the users more option, help the users adjust the colors from different mode(Standard, Game, Theater, Scenery and Night) and let them see the effect from the pictures.

It is working just fine. The fact here there is no autodetect function like i thought. To be honest i never checked just using my intuition. Xotic: Read asus.com less read forums more. Thats my advice to you.

Actually I've noticed that when I load a game the screen colours & gamma WILL change. There does seem to be some kind of auto-detection going on. My guess is that it detects when you use 3d graphics. Has anyone noticed this?

Most if not all games have their own gamma correction. You can manually aqdjust it as well. Doubt this is a splendid feature
