    Hi all

I am not sure which gaming laptop I should get from Asus. Yes I am definitely
buying an Asus laptop. The three ones I am looking at are the
    G71-RX05
    G51VX-RX05
And this one was a bundle laptop product the UX50V-A1

And the G51VX is a little over my budget too bad
I need a laptop that is semi-portable but not to important

    General Questions

    1) What is your budget?
    1500 USD

    2) What size notebook would you prefer?
    a. Netbook; 10” screen or less
    b. Ultraportable; 11" - 12” screen
    c. Thin and Light; 13" - 14" screen
    d. Mainstream; 15" - 16" screen
    e. Desktop Replacement; 17"+ screen
    D or E would prefer D
    3) Where will you buying this notebook? You can select the flag of your country as an indicator. USA

    4) Are there any brands that you prefer or any you really don't like?
    a. Like: Asus
    b. Dislike:

    5) What are the primary tasks will you be performing with this notebook?
    Gaming/movies/web

    6) Will you be taking the notebook with you to different places, leaving it on your desk or both?
    both

    7) Will you be playing games on it; if so, which games or types of games?
    the sims 2 and 3, rct3, CoD 4 and 5

    8) How many hours of battery life do you need?
atleast 1 for gaming and atleast 2 1/2 hrs for web

    9) Would you prefer to see the notebooks you're considering before purchasing it or buying a notebook on-line without seeing it is OK?
I would prefer to see it but doesn't make a different as long as the site is trustworthy

    10) What OS do you prefer? Windows (XP or Vista), Mac OS, Linux, etc.
XP but i will survive with Vista

    Screen Specifics

    11) From the choices below, what screen resolutions would you prefer?
    a. WXGA – 1280x800 or occasionally 1280x768; For people who like big text and icons that are easy to read. Less stuff fits on the screen, which translates into more scrolling.
    b. WXGA+ – 1440x900; A modest bump over WXGA. Text and icons are a bit smaller. A little more stuff fits on the screen.
    c. WSXGA+ – 1680x1050; The middle ground. Again, text and icons are smaller than WXGA+, and more stuff fits onto the screen. Good for having applications open side by side, like a web browser while playing a video.
    d. WUXGA - 1920x1200; Very small text and icons, that can be hard to read. Lots of stuff fits on the screen, which means less scrolling. Good for applications that require a high level of detail like CAD or Photo Editing.
whatever the best is for gaming

    12) Do you want a glossy/reflective screen or a matte/non-glossy screen?
    doesn't matter

    Build Quality and Design

    13) Are the notebook's looks and stylishness important to you?
    no

    14) When are you buying this laptop and how long do you want this laptop to last? 3-5 years

    Notebook Components

    15) How much hard drive space do you need; 80GB to 500GB? Do you want a SSD drive? At least250 GB and what is an SSD drive and is it important

    16) Do you need an optical drive? If yes, a CDRW/DVD-ROM, DVD Burner or Blu-Ray drive? A CD-ROM/DVD-ROM

Their MC series are rebranded Compals and Clevos; if you go with either I say go with XoticPC.com as your reseller.

Best bang for your buck hardware wise is the G51-RX05

You should avoid double-posting. Ask a mod to merge the two into either the Asus thread or the "What Notebook Should I Buy" thread for best results. See my comments in your other post.

G71 and G51 are the same performance. The only difference is the extra 2gigs of ram in the G71 and the screen size.

G51 has a lightup/macbook style keyboard while the G71 keyboard remains like the old generation keyboards.
G51 also has the rubber/matte palm rest along with a stainless steal click-pad. The G71 has the old generation palmrest and old generation click-pad with the light up square around the track-pad.

Some physical differences. The g71 obviously has a much louder speaker system.

    SSD = Solid State Disk.

Drive access times are lightning fast, there are no moving parts within, which saves battery life. One drawback is currently drive capacity is low because the technology is only now becoming mainstream, though it has been around for quite some time. Think of it as a bigger and faster SD card.

None, if your budget is $1500, go get yourself a G51VX-XA1 (not sure if its the correct model, but its the $1300 Newegg G51)

The G51VX-RX05 has a 6 cell battery (I think that is right) and it last about 2 hours for gaming on the battery but I always keep it plugged in so I am probably not the best for this question.

I forgot about that one yeah if I waited and had the money again I would have got that one. I looked on Newegg and didn't see it though.

The G51 with two hours of gaming on a battery? Maybe if it was like a 24-cell.

You get two hours with light usage on power saving mode.
