    ASUS G Series G50V-X5 vs ASUS M50 Series M50Vm-B1.

i want a good laptop for solid media and gaming and can't decide. i heard g series are awesome but they both sound good and only $40 difference. sorry if this thread has been done, but there are over 500 threads... oh and if there are any other laptops under $1400 CAD anyone could recommend that would be great.

Hi and welcome to the forums.

The better gaming notebook is the G50 series.

is it mostly due to the gpu in the G50? idk the marks the nvidia 9600m gs got vs the 9700m gt. the m50 also has a little bit better cpu i think. is the gpu worth the extra forty?

Yup. The 9700M GT is quite a bit stronger than the 9600M GS. Games are mostly GPU dominant, so if gaming is your priority, the G50V would be the better choice.

Someone said they have XP64 on their G50, but personally, I could not find all the right drivers and I don't think others have either on the forum.

My suggestion is to go with Vista64 if you want a 64bit OS, and if you want XP, go with the XP 32bit

thanks a bunch..looks like i'm going with the G50 and 32bit xp...although it sux 32 bit only recognizes 3mb of ram. but vista eats up the RAM anyway. Now i just have to sell my P.O.S HP laptop.

Have you considered MSI GT627? It uses the same GPU and is one of the lightest gaming notebooks you can buy, good luck...

Also size wise its alot smaller :D

I wouldn't go for either of those personally. Unless there is some reason for choosing between those two you will be better of filling in an faq in the what notebook should I buy section.

What sort of price are you getting for the G50V? Because the G50VT range is getting cheaper now, and those have a 9800M GS.

well i guess im trying to keep it under 1200 USD. i think im going to go with the MSI actually its has the 9800m gs and doesn't have the g50vt price tag. i've read a ton of good reviews on it. what do you guys think? i know your probably asus fanboys( i am too pretty much)but msi seems like the most bang for my buck right now and i dont want to stray away from companies like asus or msi. i dislike dell, hp and gateway.

The one big reason why I couldn't (and maybe still can't) buy MSI is because they have the Fn and Cntrl keys switched. I have too much muscle memory from years at a desktop.

I like the MSI, But for what I paid for my X2 ($1300 after everything was said and done I believe) I think the Asus is better. I like the warranty and everything that comes with the Asus. Also, I don't know the build quality for the MSI but the quality of the Asus is awesome, the keyboard doesn't flex what so ever, and it's not cheap plastic.

yea i like the asus warranty as well, its become one of the major factors. i've been putting a lot of time into searching for a good quality and well priced laptop. i think this asus is the one! hopefully it doesnt change prices in the next two weeks(unless it goes down in price).i'm sure it'll be something else by tommorow seeing how this crazy competitive market is right now(even in a recession.)
