Im on a f3sv-a1 with a 8600m gs, and when its idle the temperature is 73'c.

I know that is a "normal" temperature. But heres the thing, This laptop is on a cold wooden desk and the roomtemp is 20'c.

Would installing another driver help? If so, which one?

Make sure that nothing is blocking the fan vents. Also, make sure there is no dust in the vents either, although I doubt this is a problem, due to the fact the notebook seems to be fairly new. Another thing is to check and make sure that the fan is running.

On my Asus V1S the NVidia PowerMizer does not work with the original Asus drivers. But it doesn't get as hot as yours, though.

I would check the air vents are not obstructed in any way, there was a post ages ago of someone having plastic covering a vent ans asking if they should remove it.

Recently I have been downloading over night with my W3J, if I, close it, turn it upside down and sit it on the lid and leave it it overnight all the CPU and HDD temps run 10deg lower!

not to good if you want to work on it though :D

Lol, I was wondering if I was the only one doing that :)
One thing for w3j, btw, I find it very helpful to just clean the vent on the right side with a vacuum cleaner, it works like a charm

Don't worry. I've been up to 97C for the gpu and 88C for the cpu. :)
