This is a duplicate of a post I made in the UL20A owners' lounge thread but I figured some other Asus owners with similar models might be able to add some insight so hopefully I'm casting a wider net here.

Does anyone know if a 12.5mm hdd will fit in the Asus UL20A? I opened it up and tried to gauge but all I could tell was that it would definitely be a tight fit that could go either way.

Looking at dropping in the 1TB Hitachi that's on sale for $72 today

    Thanks

I don't know for sure, but I doubt it. I had one of their EEE models that is shaped the same (almost exactly!) and it was a really tight squeeze.

Having said that, the tight squeeze was due to the hard drive caddy, not the laptop case itself - so if you had some other way to secure it, it might.

The G51 can fit a 12.5 in one of the bays, but its very deep, i doubt a small thin laptop would have for it though.

I'm quite sure my old EEE 1000HA could fit one, but the 1005/seashell revision couldn't. I know the n10j can't. And yes, the g51VX could, but not the J, or JX.

You might want to ask in the owners forum.

my g72 cant in either bay

however, in the main bay with the cpu, the backing could be cut out and it could fit one. it was meant for a 9.5 mm drive though.

    The G50VT has a 12.5mm bay, too
