accept, but not at full speed. only 667mhz, that's all santa rosa supports.

The thread you posted said 800 Mhz, also written 800 Mhz on the Intel site for santa rosa...

Sorry, I did a quick search, it's the problem of the chipset within the Santa Rosa cpus... you're right yuio.

Btw Creatz, I've found this article, even "if" the Santa Rosa can support 800 Mhz memory, it won't really make a difference in performance...

Dunno if you bothered reading the posts above, but yes, PC 6400/800mhz RAM works on the G1S. There won't be any performance difference running 667 or 800 though due to the Santa Rosa Motherboard limitation.

yeah i did read it but,

want i ment to say was, and noticed that i didnt say was. Would a future bios update correct this so that it did wotk at full 800 and is it worth me getting this better ram now ?

The issue is a limitation with the motherboard chipset itself, which BIOS updates cannot circumvent. D3X's reply stands as accurate.

No. A future bios will not change the architecture limitation that Intel has implemented for the 965 chipset. So in other words, 800mhz RAM will never work at 800mhz on the G1S or any notebook using the 965 for that matter, it will only work at a downclocked 667mhz speed. Which is why it is highly unrecommended to upgrade to PC6400/800mhz DDR2 memory as you will be wasting money.

OK well, what's your current memory configuration? If you have less than 2GB of memory, it's still probably worth upgrading the memory depending on what your using it for.

Don't get me wrong, I didn't say "don't upgrade" your memory, just not to PC 6400s.

    well i bougth 4gb of crucial 533
but i then realised that the g1s would accept 677 and it was only £10 more for it so ive paid for it and its on its way to me now
but i can send it back

so i have the option to pay £61 for 677 or £71 for 800

but i was thinking to myself
if i ever get another laptop i could keep the 677 stuff and move it to a higher spec laptop later on
im just wondering if down clocking is a bad thing ?

Um.. 667 is correct, 533 would be downclocking the system and would hamper the performance.

No, the next generations will be using DDR3 and not the current DDR2 technology. So you do not need to worry about future upgradability.
