Does the manufacturer (Atheros) website supply a Windows 7 driver, perhaps?

Try that : Don't install the last driver, but an oldest one from vista 64bit.

What is the exact chipset # of your atheros device ?

I think I have that card in my G50. Windows 7 automatically picked up the device and had the driver for it. Try doing an update to the driver and see if any of the Windows 7 updates had the driver with it.
