did i miss anyone bringing this up? I just bought a w3v after searching for 7 months for exactly what the V6Va has.
Justin, care to comment on this model?
-
According to German tech news site it also has a new cooling system supposed to be 20 percent more effective than the current one.
-
Wow that thing looks awesome...
I guess Asus is just playing "fan service" and pulling out all the stops now.
:asus:
However, I'm not that happy about the glossy ColorShine screen... I prefer matte. -
Wow that is one sexy laptop.....I kind of want to replace my w3v with that...
-
well at least its got a sxga screen, which is pretty much unheard of for glossy screens. or maybe the sxga is a matte version which would be nice.
-
Well, the specs say:
15" XGA (1024x768) / SXGA+Color Shine LCD(1400x1050)
I'm not sure if that means only the SXGA+ comes in ColorShine...or they both do...
If this comes out, I wonder if they'll drop the prices on the V6V even more to get rid of them... if so, I'll get a V6V over a V6Va (because I'm poor) :asus: -

It's 128mb x700 model w/ a SXGA+ colorshine screen....... Don't expect it anytime soon though, I heard about this back in April (a week before the V6v was released) and it was just in the talking stages at that point. Asus just recieved a shipment of V6v's after their long backorder and they don't really want to bring in any other units till next year. So I wouldn't hold out for this, but if time isn't an issue.... go ahead. Keep in mind that although that graphics card is unreal for a system like that.... it's there... but there are going to be downsides to it....... IE: heat and battery life........ but still a wicked machine.
-
its basically a really slick looking asus hotplate with laptop like features.
-
PROPortable Company Representative
Haha... not quite, but some people do complain about heat and most of them don't realize there's an equal reaction to performance.... and you can get ALMOST everything you could ever want... a thin system with awesome performance at a decent price and good battery life.... but there has to be a downside..... heat has to be downside.... there's no other way around it.. But from what I've seen, that may not even be all that bad.... just maybe bad enough for some people to complain a little.
-
-
Wow, nice specs
I wonder what kind of pricetag it's going to have?
Probably too much for me... -
v6v has a pricetag of $1800 USD, so I think, $2100~would probrably be realistic

THis is 400 Euros MORE, so this one is **** expensive for what it is.
Even the other model is expensive.. It seems like all of the ASUS ensemble units are really expensive for what u can get compared to Built-On models from all Brands (ASUS, DELL, SONY and more)
And if you wondering about cooling.
New cooling system - efficient by Heatpipe
Besides the V6Va of models integrates a new cooling system with the designation "ACHS": Aluminum Copper Heat Spread. By the integration copper of a Heatpipe into aluminum radiator box is crucially improved the heat dissipation by CCU and GPU. The optimized temperature management has a heat dissipation more efficient around 20 per cent and made possible thus the use of high performance components such as Pentium M 770 processor and ATI X700 diagram chip during heat development on the hand file and in the entire housing, reduced at the same time.
I have plenty of Time to wait fro this model to come out, since it seems perfect for me, i like the SXGA+ screen, i think i will like the glossy screen, i want an X700 128mb, I don't mind the 1x 512 533mhz RAm module, which i can grab a 1gb stick and throw it in. I personly think i would only need the 1.73 ghz, but a 1.86 is fine, and i would only need a 60gb 5400rpm HD, but the 80gb is nice. I don't need BT, but sicne it comes with it, i guess it's ok. I think the dimensions and weight are OK, and the optical drive, well i dont needa DVD burner, but since it comes with it, its also ok.
Correction the RAm will be only 400mhz in the first model, hopefully i can do some thing about that lol.
Overall i think the specs are nice but one thing, PRICE =\
Thanks,

About right for the price
ENSEMBLE units are pretty expensive, but well worth the extra investment...
Hmmm, wouldn't copper add alot of weight to the notebook? Since traditional cooling spreaders are aluminum, I believe? -
MysticGolem Asus MVP + NBR Reviewer NBR Reviewer
oh um, the weight of this thing sorta varies, about 2.33 to 2.5kg
in pounds thats 5.1-5.5lbs
Light in my opinion, this laptop reminds me of the Samsung X20 1860 SE
But of course the Samsung is a sexy looking silver laptop, and this V6Va well looks almost like anyother ASUS laptop, with an exception of the Z71v. LOL but w/e i will wait for this model to come out since it is what im looking for, Also since im in no rush to buy, and by the time this will be available, dual cores or soemthing better will be available so the prices of P-Ms would go down and so will the X700 since newer and more awsome mobile GPUS will be out.
IM HOPEING LOL.
Thanks,
MysticGolem -
Still light for a 15" though
I'm really interested in seeing how, if this ever comes out, performs! -
Official Asus reply: Don't expect any new models on the U.S. market till next year (around March or so).
WTF? They already started selling those things in Germany. They are "oficially" in stock at some retailers, but most say 3 to 4 days. I wrote to one just to make sure. Answer: Yes, it's in stock.
How come the U.S. market is so behind in techno-gear. I thought it's just cell-phones, but it seems it's all other kind of techno stuff as well. I think I'm going to order from the UK or so if they get it soon, or Germany (Annoying keyboard, but at least I will be on par with the rest of the world). -

Asus is going to stop production on dothan units for the most part when the yonah's are available........ so it's not going to bring down the cost of them, because they just won't be around. I know that's a bummer to some, but we saw the same exact thing happen last year. The only thing we may see stick around would be models that aren't getting updated to a dual-core system. Right now I can't talk about those, but given the fact that all of the ensembles available today were completely new designs as of late spring, we're going to see them swap over. Asus will use a design through probably 3 updates if not more.... The M2 went from P3m to P4m to P-M (banias) to P-M (400mhz dothan) before being retired....
-
Well, ASUS is technically from Eurasia(Taiwan..) so...
Although here, we do get some stuff faster....
Some...
Not alot

It has nothing to do with being behind.... these and others are "avaialble" for the US to order...... however they have to consider price points due to the dual-core systems coming out at the end of January (at best) ...... but Intel is touting the dual-core Pentium-M's as a 4th quarter 2005 product.... so brigning in updated models that increase the price may put these units out of a lot of peoples ranges and therefore Asus may get stuck with them. They want to have ZERO stock by time the new units come in next year..... I'm with you on a lot of things, but it's also not hard to understand their point of view. This is traditionally a slow period for Notebooks and also, most people know new stuff comes out after the start of the new year........ so for Asus a $1800 V6v would sell better for the rest of the year than a $2000 plus V6va would..... Not to mention it takes a good month to get word about new models out once they're in stock.. The US is also supposed to be the FIRST with the new dual-core units, so places like Germany may have more time to sell off some of these systems and the next generation stuff isn't touted the same way it is here..... I don't know if people don't care about it as much or what.... but there's always a lul in buying for the last quarter before something new may arrive....... even if that turns into half a year.
We have US V6 keyboards if you happen to import it from somewhere else, but you may want to wait a little while to see what happens. -
I would go for a laptop like this, but never a non-widescreen one.

... I was going to say... 4th Thursday in November (24th this year).
-
Justin.. any possible way to find out, atleast a hint from ASUS?
If Thanksgiving time is the case, I can hold off and wait, if not, then W3V here I come. -

First, I'm under and NDA and nothing offical can come from me till it's released or until Asus decides to let the cat out of the bag. Word has it that the V6va order that we originally had in was lost by Taiwan and then Asus US, when given the new timeframe, said they'd rather wait to release it till they have the dual core models in early next year.
The main issue is cost and the release that would be so close to when they start ramping up to the dual core systems. They said though that regardless of what they want, Taiwan may end up shipping some over here. That is what they don't know and *won't* know till they actually arrive (if they do)....... What is known is that it wouldn't be till at least the 3rd week of November, if at all..... but apparently it's going to be a surprise to them either way.
- I love the idea myself, but I'm not holding my breath as we all know what happens to direct ETA's from Asus........ so it's little more than a pipe dream as far as the US and this year are concerned. If they show up, they show up..... but I certainly couldn't be responsible for telling someone to wait or not..
wtf is this V6VA
