Since this is what the W3V uses, and I am looking to purchase one I guess I should post this here. In the process of researching GPU and the like, I think I have confused myself. I know that the x600 in the W3V has 64MB of dedicated VRAM. Using HyperMemory is can increase by taking away system RAM.
My first question would be does the HyperMemory increase continuously as the system memory increases?
Also, they say that it is not ideal for gaming, but it does very well for 3d rendering, etc. If you gave the system a large amount of system RAM, would it take a lot for VRAM and increase the gaming performance? Or would its gaming performance remain the same, its just that the VRAM for other applications would increase making rendering easier?
Thanks for any clarification you can give regarding this GPU.

OK well I found this.. http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=18685&highlight=hypermemory
I guess I didn't look hard enough. Any insight you still have would be appreciated. -

There really isn't much more insight you need... I think you answered your own questions by finding what I wrote.....
This helps 3d rendering programs because they simply use video ram and the gpu doesn't really matter as much as evena x600 can certain handle more than any 3ds max or maya could throw at it.... the end ram really won't help games because there's only so much extra video ram can even do...
The reason the extra ram helps in 3d programs is that it just won't run out of memory...... this isn't a problem you really see in gaming. -

Just wondering how you can exactly alter the amount of ram the hypermemory is using? Can you stop it from using any ram and can you increase its capacity to do so?

From the sounds of it I would guess that the user doesn't need to alter anything. I think if it does not need the system RAM as VRAM then it will leave it alone until it is needed. I'm not sure if there is a way to control it though.
Personally, I am looking towards giving my system 2GB of RAM anyway. I deal with a lot of 3d rendering programs, and I just have the money to put up a few extra 100 for the upgrade.
Also.. a little off topic. But how would you say ASUS exactly? Do you say it as a word? If so, how is it pronounced? Do you say it by letter as A.. S.. U.. S.. ? Heh. I always feel like an idiot if in live conversation I say something wrong.:asus:

makken...thats actually hotly debated on here, but I pronounce it like that and when I spoke with an ASUS rep on the phone, he pronounced it A-SIS (or Ace-iss) as well if I remember correctly (my memory could just be complying with my pre-conceived pronunciation here.)

There was a thread on Notebook Forums about that, and I believe the official way (Justin can correct me if I mess this up) is Ah (like "say ah")-Suus (Like Dr. Seuss), although I don't routinely pronounce it that way.

I wonder what the difference is between running your system memory in single channel or duel channel. I suspect, when the card goes to use the hypermemory (system RAM) for storing textures -a dual channel configured machine will notice less lag than a single channel system. Just a theory, but anyone care to test? Probably best done with a 3D Mark benchmark that trys to use lots of video memory and post the performance from that test only.

Is there any way to view and/or change the amount of memory dedicated to hyper-memory???

I've also heard "us"-"sucs" but rarely, never heard of the "ah-suus" one though
