This static read-only archive was pulled by NBR forum users between January 20 and January 31, 2022, in an effort to make sure that the valuable technical information that had been posted on the forums is preserved. Yes and no..... you don't NEED the 2915 card, to still be centrino... but "sonoma" is just a codename and doesn't have any real play in reality.
From what I hear there are even companies who are going to be selling sonoma based notebooks with ddr333 at well...
The 2915 wifi card is not some great new technology. Intel decided to make an A/B/G card because prior to centrino all the of the big companies got A wifi installed for $millions.... Then intel had a hard time selling them systems when they told them they had to redo their wifi.... So, the newest card is really only to incorperate the oldest wifi technology. Since most people today are still getting the 2200, Asus is using the 2200 on the smallest systems they have... the S5/Z33/W5 .
