Hi, no one seems to talk about the z61a / z61ae anymore, but i m planning to get one from geared2play (because it's the only "business" asus laptop...with matted screen)

anyway, i was wondering, can anyone comment on the built quality of the z61a?

everyone says asus built qualities are very good, but from the pictures, those hinges on the z61a looks very thin and plastic-ish.

    input would be appreciated.

    thx

Well, it's "refresh" of the old M3N notebook, which was, according to Justin, a Centrino concept notebook built by Intel and Asus. I've seen one in person, and it is indeed a very nice notebook.

As for the hinges... they are very study (like all Asus laptops). Pictures really don't do it justice - it's a very sleek simple computer. Build quality really is something you don't have to worry about with Asus... because it's pretty much guaranteed.

If you need a 14" matte screen system and don't mind using previous generation Centrino technology... then the Z61Ae is a good choice :)

Yes, I meant single core Pentium-M as opposed to Core Duo :)

Heck, Pentium-M 1.73 GHz is fast enough for me :p

Either the Asus or the Thinkpad... :)
Thinkpad is solid business machine, but the Asus is prettier and is less expensive I believe.

Where do you even see this laptop on our website? We never listed it. z63a was always a much better choice but no portbar support. Now you got the z62f which has portbar support. Go for that. There is no sense in getting old technology. Dual core is the new standard.

well, i made a post back a month ago on your forum asking about it, and you gave me a link to the z61ae. the link can't be accessed from your website directly.

does this mean you guys no longer sell the z61ae?

p.s.: i dun like the z63a's reflective screen...it's too hard on the eyes for long periods of word processing

How do you come accross this fact? The few reviews from people who are extremely picky or your own experience. I happen to disagree with this statement completely and so would MOST users. I caution again. When reading negative reviews of screens in particular take it with many grains of salt. 99% of the time the neg reviewer speaks only for himself where the rest of the world would disagree. We dont stock the z61 never did but it is still available if you have the link i gave you.

i'm not sure if bestbuy is the best place for such tests, but i went there and tried using the models they have on displace.

the reflection of the light in the background annoyed the hell out of me, but that COULD be due to bestbuy's lighting

You should buy a cheap Toshiba or Gateway from Best Buy...
take it home and see how the glossy screen really is.

If it's too annoying for you... return it and get the Z61A
If it's awesome.... return it and get a Z62f :D
