    Hey everybody,

I think its the Z63 thats the built-on version of the w3v chassis, and was wondering if its going to have a core duo followup. I love the modular bay and size and looks, but don't need that much power in the W3J, I'd rather have battery life.

So, anybody know if there's going to be a follow-up, and when its coming out?

W3J is an ensemble model, and the price is more expensive than z63a. z62F is the one for budget built-on Asus barebone model. The both bewteen z63a & z62f are a 14" LCD with a Intel graphic up to 128MB shared memory. z63a using Penitum-M, but z62f use Core Duo. This model should be fit to your expectation.

The z62f has a very mainstream chassis though, will there be a new built on with the w3 chassis?

nope. CanadaSys has pointed out the Core Duo successor of the Z63.

Asus has chosen to separate their ensemble and built-on lines further (stylistically), so you won't find anything as sleek as a w3 chassis on any of the new core duo built-on notebooks. the new built-ons are more generic and, while still excellent machines in their own right, they lack the personality of the ensembles that the previous built-ons had (z33, z70, z63 were all based on ensemble chasses).

You might want to wait for the z35f its a 13.3in widescreen core duo built on. will be out soon. its all black and doesnt look bad. its like a widescreen version of the z33.

Forget the Core Duo and find yourself a Z63. There aren't many left at resellers, but if you can find one you can find one for a good price.

Z63, forget the new chassis, I'm disappointed in it. Can't beat the Z63's chassis for the price. Plus, unless you're doing something that requires Core Duo then the Pentium-M will be plenty powerful.
