    Hey All,

My love came in last night and I've been spending the usual hours doing all the normal installing and configuring stuff since I didn't have the drivers or OS pre-installed. Anyways, to all who are on the line of buying a z63a, I just gotta say that the picture DOES NOT DO IT JUSTICE! It stands out on its own and the white battery casing is just spectacular... It looks so much better in person.

But enough raving, here's the problem I've ran into so far:

    No audio.
    - when I open Volume Controls it says "No active mixers found... click on Printers to add new hardware... program will now close." (along those lines)

I have installed the audio drivers provided in the ASUS driver CD. I also went to ASUS website to see if there was a driver update and installed that. The drivers are from RealTek I believe.

I'm not quite sure what's going on, since my device manager shows my audio codecs and drivers as being installed and working properly. The only that has that yellow question mark is next to my PCI thing, so... ?

I haven't been able to install my PCI either since it says the ASUS driver CD doesn't have the needed driver, and well, I don't know which driver to install for the PCI device.

Also, when I installed the RealTek drivers, a dialog popped up saying it failed the XP compatibility test - I hit Continue so, is that perhaps a problem? I just don't know how to verify the mistakes, or where to look.

Has anyone else had this problem or have you been able to install everything smoothly?

Shoot, man, I didn't have that problem. The only way I can help you is to tell you that it isn't normal. I'm sure you'll get some replies with advice. Do you have SP2 installed? That could be key...

Hope it works out, it is a crummy way to start off the awesome Z63A experience.

Did you install EVERYTHING from the CD?
I believe there's something you're missing...an Intel chipset driver that detects the audio.

I wish I looked here first. I went nuts with system restore trying to get my sound working until I read about the UAA drive update on my own.

The uaa driver is on the driver/util disk. The only reason it would not show up is if you are using a pre sp version of windows if i recall correctly.....no?

I have a tendency to ignore the driver disk and go straight for the website to get the latest drivers. Usually it's a good idea. In this case I completely missed the UAA update. I only wished the stupid Realtek driver installation would have told me that I didn't have the UAA update installed.

I installed the UAA driver, but xp's device manager didn't associate it with the hardware until I manually told the device manager to search for the driver. My fresh XP install had SP2 integrated on the CD. There's something wrong with the way the UAA driver installs on some XP setups, as I had the same problem with my desktop PC install.

Last night, I spent at least 2 hours to get the sound to work. The problem was I did not install the UAA. At last, I installed everything from the driver CD disk and it finally worked. Now I have a lot of duplicated system components on the device manager menu. Will they slow down the laptop with duplicated/triplicated/quadraplicated components? Will it affect the whole system, if I just delete all duplicated except one?

BTW, after manually getting the UAA driver to associate with the hardware, I had to install the realtek driver a second time. Lacking properly configured UAA, the first install of the realtek software didn't complete fully, leaving out the realtek sound manager utility.
