I've been looking at the z70 series and was wondering if you nice forum members could answer some of my questions.

    1. Are all three models the same chassis and construction and only differ by the graphics card? Do they all have the four speaker setup?

    2. Does having an x700, x600, or integrated have a drastic affect on the heat produced by the laptop? Will dropping down to the z70v from a z70va or even going down to integrated allow for a much cooler laptop experience? What about battery life?

    3. Do they all use the same screens?

    Thanks in advance.

    Greetings Silver Wolf:

    1. Yes; Yes

    2. Under normal use, no, not really.... however when you're pushing the graphics with games and such, more heat will be created with a dedicated gpu setup. Battery life goes down as the performance goes up (and gets used). The Z70a will have slightly more life than a Z70v when configured the same and used about the same way. That margin with grow as you're pushing. The same goes for upgrading to the Z70va.

    3. No.... they are all the same size and ratio (15.4" / 4:3). The Z70a is a WXGA while the Z70v and Z70va are WSXGA+

    Hope that helps you out.

So there wouldn't be much of a reason to pick the z70v for a lower graphics card if the heat dissipated will be about the same during normal use? z70va refresh all the way?

it is 16:10... as for battery life, the z70a would definitly have better battery life than the z70v or z70va. i would be included to say somewhere within 30-100 minutes more battery life. If you use ati's powerplay, the temperature will be the same on all platforms in 2d stuff, and there is no batter life difference between the x600 and x700.. so the x70va is better. of course if you play games on battery, than the z70v will have longer battery since it's processor is only half as powerful (basically simular architecture, just have the pipelines)

As Justin had mentioned in an earlier post, both the Z70A and V have reached EOL, so availability is probably already limited, which makes this whole discussion moot :)

    Yeah..... they're 16:10 ---- there's no such than a 15.4" 4:3 ...... so I hope I didn't cause a commotion.
