I'm having this weird problem with my z70v where if i leave the optical drive in the notebook, Windows will not boot (msg:"Reboot and Select Proper Boot Device or Insert Boot Media in selected Boot device."). If i put in the optical drive when windows is loaded, the computer jumps to a blue error screen and freezes. So i'm forced to use my laptop without my optical drive. Anyone know what's going on here?

Is the optical drive set first in the boot sequence? Maybe try changing the order...then at least you'd be able to get the thing booted up with the optical drive in...

Does the faceplate color of the drive match the color of the rest of the chassis? In good light, take a look. If you have an older M6 drive, it may be your problem.
Other than that - are you using Windows XP PRO w/ SP2? -
The drive matches the chassis and changing the order of the boot sequence doesn't help. The problem is as soon as I put in the removable optical drive, the notebook freezes (even in Bios). Arg...frustrating.

I've heard of this happening a couple times and if it wasn't a non conforming drive (like one from the M6) ... it was mostly always a driver issue. I know that doesn't help, but I would check it out. Has it always happened?
Wait........ are you saying the system won't boot with the drive in the unit? I think I missed that, and if that's the case, there's something up. I'd format and see if you still have the problem. If you do, the drive itself might be bad and if that's not it, it's got to be the motherboard.
