After having lived thru one canceled order for a z70va due to the vendor having only red ghost-infected screens (the honesty was much appreciated), I took the plunge anyway with another vendor (DiscountLaptops) and hoped for the best.
I spent WAY too much time browsing every forum possible to get more and more information on this issue, as well as the z70va itself.
Finally, the machine arrived this afternoon. On first boot, I looked closely at the Centrino logo - no ghost. Then I spent the next hour installing WinXP Pro. On first XP boot-up, I looked for the ghost with the XP logo - no ghost. As soon as it booted, I did a bunch of black background/white window tests and nothing. I'm not going to say I'm out of the woods yet, but I'm feeling good.
So there are z70VAs that don't have it out of the box still.
I got the BT version and since it's thru discountlaptops, it's rebranded as a Chembook 2370va.
I've had zero problems so far with driver installs, etc.
So far, so good.

Chem would have gotten part of the original BT shipment that we recieved back in the first week of September...... I can ensure you this issue didn't happen till at least one shipment after that towards the end of the month.
I think you're in the clear. Serial number by chance? -
I know of 2 posts on different forums where Chembook owners mentioned having ghosting, so I don't think they're totally immune. -

That serial... doesn't seem correct... 58NG000000 or 59NG000000 are what they should start with... 58NG is a z70va with out bluetooth which may have been retrofitted...... and 59NG started the built-in bluetooth from the factory.

Perhaps the batch sent specifically to Chembook has a different batch number...?

Oh no.... that could be right.... I looked back and we had some that were 5A..... those were from a shipment that was destined for Asus' South American office but the US cut it off because we were waiting so darn long...... That notebook should be good.

I just received my z70va chembook this last week and my S/N is 5ANG021321. No red ghosting that I can see, but I'll keep a watch out for it.
One thing I dd notice concerning the lcd the color temperature/saturation...the color on the lcd seems a little "washed out". It not a big deal at all...I'm very happy with the laptop and lcd is crystal clear...now my lab and home monitors look fuzzy in comparison. But the colors are less saturated on the z70va lcd than on either my viewsonic PF790 at my lab or my dell 2001fp.
Does anyone have input as to how I may increase the color saturation on the lcd? -
If only someone put up serial number info earlier....I would've asked for those specifically or something.....yeah mine is a S8NGXXXXXXX.....dang it....oh wellz I stll love my Celia~

.... you named your computer?
-

... that should be a whole new thread......
-
LoL....all these years on the forum and you guys have seriously not come across a person who has named their computer? COME ON NOW~!!! Must I start a new thread about naming computers? hahaha
I name every computer I get. My first was Callisto, and she was upgraded over the years, and became Callisto233, then Callisto400, which is her latest condition. She's got an Nforce2 board Asus a7n8x rev 2.0, 1gig OCZ Premier ram, BFG 6800OC, Kingwin KT-424 aluminum case, typical optical drives, cooler master cooldrive4, western digital 80gig WD800JB, western digital 160gig WD1600JB, a whole assortment of fans on her, and a thermalright Si97 or something, I forget heatsink.
I was going to call my new lappy, Callisto533 or mobile Callisto, but that wouldn't make sense as Callisto400 is an AMD 2500+ barton oc'd@ 2215mhz from 1833mhz. So my friend Meaghan named her Celia.
anyways yeah, I know you guys have named your babies as well
Oh yeah congratulations on your purchase ~! -

a7n8x rev 2.0... ah, very good board, I'm pumping my Klipsch 5.1's from that very board right now...... it's like 3 years old and how many boards today even have dolby digital 5.1 decoding on board? .... not many...
sorry for the rant.. -
the Asus A7N8X... good series; I especially liked the A7N8X-E Deluxe version..
However, I was more into tweaking and overclocking so I ended up with an Abit NF7-S 2.0...
Sorry for the Off-Topic -
PROPortable Company Representative
yeah, the -E Deluxe is what I'm using....... that's what's got the dolby digital decoding onboard....... to get an external decoder for my speakers would have cost about what the board did all by itself.
-
Yeah mine's a normal A7N8X, no deluxe version with onboard dolby decoding...but I have a Sound Blaster Audigy, which one? umm one that isn't even listed, so I'm guessing some discontinued OEM version haha
But it still sounds nice
Oops sorry about the off-topic thread steal hehe

I've spoken to soon. The Red Menace has appeared on my laptop. About half an inch in from the sides and about an inch in on the lower corners I can see some mouse trails.
Looks worse when I move a white window around those areas.
-
My computer's name is TheBeast because it was such a bastard to build this one. It is also using an A7N8X. Saved the money off the -E and bought my girlfriend some flowers with the difference. Then when she needed a new computer, she bought the A7N8X-E deluxe on my suggestion.
-
RUFHAUSEN NOOOOOOOOOO~!!!!! I'm sorry to hear of your misfortune...
Can you confirm that your problem developed as well, as others have been starting to report that their Red Ghosting developed, like mine did.
Go to the thread on the red ghosting....umm...I forget which one and post there as Eddie needs more feedback from members who have had this problem develop.
Cheers,
Mike -
I've minimized it somewhat for now by using the brightness/contrast settings.
