ok im basicly decided i want a z70va but i need performance to beat or equal my desktop.
    its a 2.0 ghz athlon 64 3000
1 gb of pc 3200 ddr
the main hd i THINK is 5200rpm, all i can find it its 40 gb and made in 2002, im assuming its 5200
and to laugh the vid card is a geforce 4 ti 4200 yes the ati x700 will kill that

so my questions really are what pentium m should i get 1.73, or 1.86

as well as would investing in a 7200rpm hd be worth it, i play games thats why i wanted the x700 so im thinking maybe so

Both CPUs don't really differ much in performance... but I'd get the 1.86 if I were you.
Getting a 7200RPM drive is worth it if you'll be gaming a lot.

1.8 should be good enough, for a little more, from 1.7 to 1.8 is worth it.

7200rpm does benifet, but only a little, scraps off a few seconds from loading times.

I say stick with the 5400rpm, but if you want it to perform as close to your desktop as possible then yeah go for the 7200rpm.

    Cheers and good choice~!

Sorry to get in the middle but I have a question: if i have 1GB ram in z70va ... would be worth getting 2.0 over 1.86 ghz. What about 7200 over 5400 rpm? Thank You

1gb RAM should be a minimum nowadays.

As far as I know, a 1.8gb 1gb RAM 5400rpm 80gb+, will wield almost the exact same as anything 2.0 and 7200rpm. Nothing you can notice.

it really depends on how much money you have. Coriolis is right that there won't be anything drastically different, but if you're more demanding, you may want to go with the faster hard drive.

    Thz coriolis. For z70va, i am planning 1.8gb, 1gb ram, and 60gb 5400 (i might consider 80gb).

What coriolis said. You won't notice a difference in the "feel" of the laptop, but if you're a benchmarking freak, then obviously there are differences.

You will be happy with the 1.86 and 5400rpm or 7200rpm. Like djembe said it all comes down to how much money you have.

    Cheers,
    Mike

Hmm ... I can definately go for 1.8ghz, 1gb ram, and 60gb 7200rpm. What is the heat issue for 7200 compared to 5400 rpm?
