Recently I've had this problem with my z70va in which on random startups no sound would issue out of the speakers. The sound will either be mute, or will come out as slight crackling muffled noises. Plugging in headphones will result in the same thing. It's odd, because on other startups I would have sound--leading me to think that the speakers are fine (I think) but something else may be up.

I've tried checking the device manager for a yellow exlamation mark for the sound card as well as reinstalling Realtek drivers, with little luck.

Does anyone know how I can fix this?

6pt7, this is a known problem with the Audio DJ board on the Z70Va and other M6 notebooks.

I had the same problem and my baby is in shop for repairs.

Only remedy to solve this is to send it in to your reseller and let them know about it, they will then replace the soundcard on your motherboard.

Problem is this doesn't guarantee it won't happen again. Just hope you get a good Audio DJ board.

    Cheers,
    Mike

That...is really lousy. Could it be a driver/BIOS/firmware problem? Because physically my speakers (and AFAIK, sound card) are fine, it's just that they randomly go out.

Okay re-reading your post is telling me that your sound DOES NOT output from the speakers when you plug in your headphones like it should right?

Oh, so your problem is crackling and sound going out.

I do NOT think it's a bios/driver/firmware problem because it hasn't happened on mine. Your soundcard is probably bad, like mine was.

My problem was that the speakers would not turn off when headphones were plugged in, so just RMA it.

Sorry to hear that you have to send your baby in.
